You can spend more, or you can spend smart. The choice is yours.

Erin from Erin's Audio Corner dropped a video this morning on the biggest mistakes audiophiles make. Watching it was a little funny, because it's basically what I walk people through every time they come by for a listening session.

Spending more doesn't automatically get you better sound. Where your speakers sit and where they're aimed matters a lot, and your room has more say in the sound than most people think. The biggest speakers you can fit in the room usually aren't the right ones. And the measurements tell you where to start, but your ears get the final say.

That's why we carry the speakers we do at Bluewater HIFI. We picked them because they hit some of the best acoustic trade-offs for the money. And yes, they look good too, because let's be honest, people still listen with their eyes.

Worth the 10 minutes if you're into this stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LuUBHR81Pw

Toronto Audio Fest 2026 — Bluewater Hi-Fi Highlights

Another great Toronto Audio Fest. Lots of great systems, interesting gear, and good people throughout the show.

A few highlights from my perspective:

Must listens: TAD, Accuphase, and especially Dutch & Dutch. Definitely worth spending some time with these systems.

Overall standouts: JBL Summit, PS Audio, QUAD, and Paradigm/JVC home theater setup was absolutely bonkers.

Angela Gilbert Yeung and MACO were also highlights.

Best value: NAD Class AB integrated amplifier with DALI bookshelf speakers. A great combination that shows you don't have to spend a fortune to get great sound.

The future: GRIMM speakers and electronics. Very impressive stuff and definitely a brand to keep an eye on.

Most creative room: The JBL Vintage Lounge. Great concept and a refreshing change of pace.

A special thank you to all the dealers, vendors, distributors, and everyone who took the time to chat. Especially those I haven't had the opportunity to work with before. It was great meeting new faces, making connections, and putting names to faces.

Always great to see so much passion for this industry. Looking forward to the next one.
