Imola P2. Le Mans winner. São Paulo winner. Fuji podium. And now 18 points ahead going into Sunday's finale at Monza. Plus: back-to-back ELMS titles in Portimão and, across the Atlantic, the IMSA GTD Pro manufacturers' title, second year running.

The model year that doesn't exist: 1983.

43 pre-production cars were built. All but one were destroyed. The survivor, a white car with a blue interior, is on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Every Corvette since has a story.

Most V8s rumble. This one screams. 🔊

A flat-plane crankshaft derived from Corvette racing, 5.5 litres, no turbos, no supercharger – and a redline of 8,600 rpm. Add the Z07 package for carbon aero, carbon-ceramic brakes and Cup 2 R tyres.

The father of America's sports car? Born in Brussels.

Zora Arkus-Duntov: born on 25 December 1909, educated in Berlin, Le Mans class winner with Porsche in 1954 and 1955. He joined Chevrolet in 1953, fought for V8 power and showed a mid-engine research car, CERV I, in 1960. The mid-engine Corvette took a little longer.

After Italy and Frankfurt, the Corvette roadshow pulled into Autopolis in Bertrange on 24 October: the yellow Z06 leading the way through town, the full line-up in the showroom, a Corvette Racing helmet keeping watch from the roof. You drive, we care – says the wall. We'd add: merci to the Autopolis team and to everyone who came by.

The E-Ray: a 6.2-litre V8 at the back, an electric motor at the front, and the first Corvette with all-wheel drive. Seen from up here, it is mostly just very blue.
