🏰 TODAY’S STOP: BELLVER CASTLE 🏰
Today’s road trip has parked us at one of Mallorca’s most jaw-dropping landmarks — and trust us, the views from here are unreal.
🔵 It’s ROUND. Built in 1311 for King James II of Mallorca, Bellver is one of the only fully circular castles in all of Europe. Most castles are square or irregular — this one was designed as a perfect circle, towers and all.
🌉 That bridge is no joke. The main tower is connected to the rest of the castle by a high bridge stretched over a real moat. Medieval engineering at its finest.
🕌 Spot the Moorish influence. Even though it was built for Christian royalty, the double-arched galleries inside show clear Islamic architectural influence — a beautiful reminder of Mallorca’s layered history.
⛓️ From royal palace to prison. After its days as a royal residence, Bellver spent centuries as a military and political prison, holding queens, rebels, and even a 20th-century mayor of Palma.
🏛️ Now it’s a museum. Since 1932 it’s housed Palma’s History Museum, and it’s still the seat of public ceremonies and concerts today.
📸 The best part? It sits 112m up, just 3km from central Palma, with sweeping views over the bay — the perfect golden-hour photo stop on any island road trip.
🚗 The best way to reach Bellver is by car — wind up through the forest road and park right by the castle. Book your rental now at www.mallorcacarhirecompany.com and make this stop part of your own Mallorca road trip!
