🚗 Taking a Spanish-registered vehicle out of Spain permanently?

👉🏼 If you are exporting your vehicle to the UK or another country, it is important to make sure the Spanish side is closed properly.

This process is called baja definitiva por exportación ... the official de-registration of a vehicle in Spain for export.

If this is not done correctly, the vehicle may still appear as active in the Spanish DGT system, which can lead to:

❌ Future road tax demands
❌ Confusion over ownership records
❌ Problems if the vehicle is later involved in an offence abroad
❌ The vehicle still being linked to you in Spain

At Car Registrations Spain, we can handle the de-registration process for you, check the documentation, submit the application correctly, and provide the official de-registration certificate once completed.

Timing is important too. In many cases, it is best to de-register the vehicle after it has been successfully registered in the new country, so you are not left with a vehicle that is no longer active in Spain but not yet fully registered elsewhere.

Need advice before exporting your vehicle?

Speak to our team and we will guide you through the correct process. We're experts in Spanish vehicle registration, transfers and de-registration.

🚐✅ Another complicated motorhome successfully through its ITV import test!

This UK-registered Peugeot motorhome was far from a straightforward file.

It has 3 different build phases, fitted extras including solar panels ☀️ and required an electrical installation report ⚡ before it could be correctly presented for its Spanish import ITV test.

Motorhomes and campervans are often much more technical than standard cars, especially when they include conversions, modifications or additional equipment. That’s why it is so important to have the right paperwork, the right reports and the right preparation from the start. 📋

Nevertheless, we're delighted that this vehicle passed its test yesterday 👏 and will now be expertly registered onto Spanish plates 🇪🇸 by our team.

At Car Registrations Spain, we handle the complicated cases as well as the straightforward ones... making the whole process as smooth as possible for our customers. 💪

Thinking of importing a motorhome, campervan or other foreign vehicle into Spain? Let our experienced team take care of it for you. ✅

🚨 DGT starts cancelling fines after speed camera error detected

The DGT has begun revoking sanctions issued by a section speed camera on the A-7 between San Roque and Algeciras, after it was found that drivers were being fined as if the limit was 80 km/h... even though the road signs allowed vehicles to travel at 100 km/h.

One driver successfully appealed two fines after proving that the signage did not match the speed limit being applied by the radar system.

👉🏼 This is an important reminder: not every traffic fine is automatically correct.

A “radar de tramo” calculates your average speed between two points, rather than simply catching your speed at one exact moment. But if the limit programmed into the system does not match the road signs, drivers may have grounds to challenge the fine.

✅ Always check the location
✅ Check the speed limit shown on the notice
✅ Check whether the signs on the road matched the fine
✅ Appeal within the deadline if something seems wrong

This does not mean all section speed camera fines are invalid, but it does show that mistakes can happen... and in this case, the DGT accepted the appeal and cancelled the fines.

Drive safely, but remember: if a fine looks wrong, it may be worth checking before simply paying it.

🚐 Motorhome or Campervan ITV every 6 months? Not always.

There’s a headline doing the rounds claiming that the BOE confirms ITV inspections every 6 months for motorhomes and campervans.

But the important detail is this:

👉 It depends on how the vehicle is classified on the ficha técnica.

A proper autocaravana / motorhome in category M generally follows the normal passenger vehicle-style ITV timetable:

✅ Up to 4 years old - no ITV
✅ 4 to 10 years old - every 2 years
✅ Over 10 years old - every year

However, a furgón vivienda / camperised van in category N is treated differently:

⚠️ Up to 10 years old - annual ITV
⚠️ Over 10 years old - ITV every 6 months

So before panicking, check the vehicle classification on your ficha técnica. Two vehicles may look very similar from the outside, but if they are classified differently, the ITV frequency may also be different.

This is especially important for imported motorhomes, campervans, converted vans and older vehicles.

At Car Registrations Spain, we always check the technical paperwork carefully because the classification can make a big difference to the ITV requirements.

🚨 Could traffic fines in Spain soon depend on your income?

DGT Director Pere Navarro has shown support “in principle” for a proposal from Sumar that would see traffic fines adjusted according to a driver’s earnings.

The idea is simple:

💶 Higher earners could pay much higher fines
📉 Lower earners could receive reduced penalties
⚖️ The same offence, but a different financial punishment depending on income

For example, reports suggest that a €300 fine could potentially rise to €750, €1,200 or even €1,800 for higher-income drivers.

👉🏻 However, this is not currently law.

Navarro also admitted that the system would be extremely complicated to apply, especially because it could require access to tax/income information.

So for now, nothing has changed, but it is another sign that Spain is continuing to look at tougher and more targeted traffic enforcement.

What do you think?

Should fines be the same for everyone, or should wealthier drivers pay more?

👇 Let us know your opinion.
