A great day out yesterday around East and South Antrim yesterday! We also made a stop off at Whitehead Railway Museum to see Diesel loco 142 in use. On our return to base we took 2464 around some her old routes in Bangor.

A recent issue occurred where 822 interior lighting SMUX system malfunctioned and the lights permanently stayed on. These Siemens VDO SMUX systems are well known for issues. The fault has been traced to a poor plug where the connections had corroded along with a supply issue. A controller was sourced and once a hard reset of the MUX system
was carried out it’s now resolved.

The MUX system is a multiplex system which allows various parts of the wrights body section and parts of the Scania electrical system to interface together via a network of nodes which reduces the wiring lengths. The system allows various parts to talk together. These lighting controllers are an optional extra which allows 4 wires to the cab as supposed to 16. It’s supplied separately but talks to the CPU via a communication link.

It’s a great system in theory…
