WHY I DON'T DO 1 HOUR DRIVING LESSONS!

I get asked quite a lot if I do 1 hour lessons, and the answer is no. Here's why :

I honestly don't think they benefit you at all!

By the time you've got in the car, we've had a quick chat about your last lesson, gone over what we're doing today and actually started learning something new, it's nearly time to take you home again!

There's just not enough time to get stuck into anything properly.

It makes your progress so much slower because we're constantly stopping and starting. Then when you get further on with your driving, how are we meant to fit a proper mock test into an hour? We can't!

And the biggest thing is MONEY! 💷

People sometimes think having 1 hour lessons will save them money, but in the long run it can actually end up costing you more because your progress is taking longer and you're delaying getting that licence!

I'd much rather have you for 2 hours, get some proper driving done, work on things you're struggling with and actually see you making progress.

I'm not here to drag your lessons out. I'm here to teach you to drive safely, build your confidence and get you through your test!

2 hour lessons aren't about me making more money. They're about making the most of YOUR time and YOUR money! 🚗💛

Meeting traffic or meeting predictions?😂

So today I was patiently explaining meeting traffic situations to my learner and during our briefing I was telling them how some drivers just don't seem to think ahead at all!

They see there's clearly no space for them, but instead of waiting and giving way a little earlier so everyone can keep moving, they just HAVE to push through! And what happens? Nobody can move, the whole street gets blocked and we all sit there looking at each other. Brilliant! 😂🙈

And OOOOH BOY!!! I don't think I've EVER come across so many perfect examples of exactly what I'd just explained, all within about 30 minutes!

Honestly, it was like someone had organised the whole thing just for my lesson! 😂

But what an absolutely brilliant lesson it turned out to be! My learner could see in real life exactly why we need to look ahead, anticipate what might happen and sometimes give way much earlier, even when technically we could carry on.

Because sometimes you have to do the thinking for the drivers who clearly aren't doing much of it themselves! 🤣🙈

I couldn't have planned those examples any better if I tried!

Now I'm just wondering... should I carry on teaching driving or start predicting lottery numbers? 😂

Yesterday, I received THE call.

The call nobody ever wants to answer. The call that should never have to happen. The one that makes you wish the earth would swallow you whole. The one you wish you'd never picked up.

A family member had died in a head-on collision with a lorry.

I felt physically sick. My tears wouldn't stop. It felt like I'd been electrocuted. The kind of shock that runs through your entire body and leaves you unable to comprehend what you've just heard.

He was 54.

He will forever be 54.

And those of us left behind? We get to carry the grief, the unanswered questions and the consequences of a decision made in a split second.
And then I had to make the same call to the rest of my family...

And this is why I teach the way I do.

I've seen a lot. I've experienced a lot. And I've dodged a lot. Situations that could have ended very differently. Things that stay with you and change the way you look at the road forever.

I don't ever want YOU to find yourself in those situations.

When I insist you check again, anticipate danger, slow down, make safe decisions and take responsibility for what happens around you, I'm not being difficult.

I'm trying to make sure that none of your family ever has to receive the call I received yesterday.

I want YOU safe. I want your passengers safe. I want the people coming towards you on the opposite side of the road to get home to their families, too.

You want a fast pass? Someone to teach you test routes, tell you where to turn and get you through a 40-minute driving test as quickly as possible?

I am not the instructor for you.

I don't teach you to pass a test. I teach you to come home.

Because behind every steering wheel is a life. And behind every life is a family who expects that person to walk back through the door.

Sometimes, they never do.

Please, take driving seriously. One split second can leave a family grieving for a lifetime.

Rest in peace. 💔

Today was all about learning and development! 📚

Attended an ADHD and Anxiety Awareness course, brilliantly organised by Sarah Hellowell at Checkmirrors SchoolofMotoring , York.

It's been an absolute pleasure to meet so many like-minded ADIs in one place, sharing experiences, knowledge and ideas.

We're very grateful for the opportunity to further develop our knowledge and understanding.

There's always something new to learn, and becoming a better instructor goes far beyond teaching someone to drive! ❤️🚗

Test fail? 100% !

How do we change lanes?
And once again - indicator doesn't give priority ! You change lanes only when it's safe to do so! And that is why - we plan ahead, we read signs, road markings and sat nav!
Another great example for missed mirror checks AND a blind spot check if we are very late getting into position.
