Some days seem to have a theme, and today's theme was sealant. I had a roof strip to reseal, a window hinge and then a other window hinge πŸ˜‚ all separate caravans!

The first was the roof strip on an older Bailey; it had had some bodged sealant in the past to try and keep a leak at bay which clearly hasn't worked, so it was time to do it right by completely removing it, cleaning it up and resealing. Now it's as it should be 😁

After that was another caravan I serviced a couple of weeks ago and found the bathroom window hinge to be falling off the van; so having removed the window it literally fell into my hands. So for that all cleaned up and resealed :) whilst there the toilet got a new pump and control panel as they had packed in.

Then over to Rochdale to reseal the front window on a Caravelair; it has been the source of a leak for a couple of months so it was time to put it right. The original hinge is screwed on using double sided tape as a seal which has failed; so once again, remove, clean, reseal!

So today I mostly rolled in the dirt and ate flaking paint, but there was a purpose behind all that, I promise πŸ˜‚

The mission was to fit a new set of LED lights to an old horse trailer. The original ones had long packed in so required a complete rewire. To add to the challenge the floor had been installed with extra long self tapping screws, so any sudden movements would turn my forehead into a colander 😭

The old ones were not for leaving and required a lot of stern words to remove them. Once everything was ripped out we could start from fresh and create a new rat's nest of wiring ;)

I joke of course, everything was neat which helps me sleep at night and helps the person in the future fault find if a problem does occur. Now they're all working and shining like a star 😁

After that I went over to an old camper to chase a leak on a Carver heater. Unfortunately the original converters gave no care to future me as everything was permanently boxed in, so the bench seat required dismantling to get access. After some digging I found the hot water pipe to be completely disconnected, so with that now attached it funnily enough doesn't leak! πŸ˜‰

Today's first outing took me to Skipton to give this Eriba a service. It's been a couple of years since it was last done and as the plans are to take it out more it was time to get it up to scratch ☺️

Overall it was a fantastic little van; other than the spare being a tad older than ideal and a couple of hobs deciding they don't want to be hobs it was in cracking condition. There's a few little modifications then owner would like to add as well as get the hob sorted so I'll be returning to that soon 😁

After that was a trip over to Darwen to finally sort the damp repair on an old Compass. I was meant to do it a week or so ago but I literally got rained off the job so we got it rebooked with everything crossed for a dry day πŸ˜‚ fortunately it was playing ball so I cut out the delaminated wood, cleaned the area up and made a new marine plywood panel to refit. After a lick of good quality paint it was put in place and sealed in πŸ˜€ now it's good to go for many more years to come.

There's nothing like a busy day with a strict appointment to be back for a certain time, so I had the pressure on me today but thankfully everything went well and I made it to the appointment with 3 minutes to spare πŸ˜‚

We started in Rochdale to give this Swift a full service. The owner will be selling it as they've replaced it with a motorhome so it was due a service to get it up to spec.

Apart from the tyres, there was very little to say about it really. The bulkhead regulator decided that it no longer wanted to be attached to the bulkhead, but after that was put right everything else fell in line :) checking the spare wheel is a bit of a hobby of mine because this one still had the original sticker on to suggest it was brand new, but after pulling it down it's clearly never been removed in a prior service as it was dated to 2013, completely flat and perished beyond use!

From there I went to look at another T4 campervan (they're like buses, you never see one then they call come at once) as the fridge ignition had stopped working. After some prodding and chin scratching the ignition module itself was found to have failed. Fortunately they can still be sourced so I'll be returning to that 😁

Then a quick fly over to a horsebox to investigate some electrical gremlins as I had done some work to it previously and we wanted to see if it was a daft mistake from me or something else. After some digging I found some extremely dodgy wiring (not mine!) that had caused a fuse to blow. I got it tidied up and all working as it should be ☺️

And finally I did a damp check on a twin axle Sprite. No photos as I'm an idiot, but all sorted so the owner can go back to the insurance with the readings.

Alright so I'm officially fed up with the rain 😭 I'm soaked to the bone, all my tools are wet and I reckon I could wring an olympic-sized swimming pool amount of water out of my boxers.

Having had my little rant I'll describe my day πŸ˜‚ starting in Burnley I gave this Coachman a full service. I've done every other caravan on the cul-de-sac so this was the final piece to the puzzle 😁

There's very little to talk about which is always a bonus. There was absolutely no damp, the brakes cleaned up nicely and the tyres were pretty fresh out the box. All it needed was a new pigtail as the original had expired :)

From there I went to look at a T4 camper for an electrics and gas check. It was fairly new to the owners so they wanted some peace of mind as there was no evidence it had ever been done.

What a delight it was to work on this van; as is best said in a strong, Northern accent; 'they don't make them like they used to'. It was so well put together, really nice quality cabinets and a grill/hob combo that I reckon has never been used. A true gem! ☺️

There were a couple of little ni**les as the battery charger had packed in and the fridge would trip the RCD on the electric setting which are all easily sortable, so we should have it back to factory in no time 😎

The main task of today was to play musical coat with the weather as it was on and off so much I decided it must have been a game πŸ˜‚

I could have done with a dry day as the first job was to reseal a skylight and carry out a delaminated floor repair underneath a Compass caravan, but I made the decision to call the latter off due to the unpredictability of the weather.

However, the skylight got sorted so that's all good 😊 it has obviously been leaking for some time which has left staining in the bathroom ceiling and walls, and I suspect played a large part in the underfloor damp. So with the old sealant all scraped away and the area cleaned up the new sealant got applied and neatened up 😁

As well as that both marker lights got replaced as the lenses had fallen apart and a new regulator and pigtail were installed as the old ones were very expired ☺️ I'll be back to sort the delamination on a more predictable day...

Back to the grind today with the first job being a service on this lovely Swift caravan.

I won't lie, I really had to dig deep to find a fault with the van. It was pretty immaculate, both inside and out, so when I say I struggled to find a fault, I really did πŸ˜‚ so other than a low battery on the smoke alarm (the bu**er kept beeping at me) it was pretty minty.

From there I went to another Swift to extend the car lead as the design of the towhook on the car meant the lead wouldn't reach the socket without being really stretched. I'm probably not alone when I say we've all fallen short an inch or two in all walks of life, but this was literally a couple of inches too short and unfortunately there was no slack to be pulled through so I had to cut the wire completely, add a little junction box and make the new section of lead just that little bit longer :)

It's been a long one today but a productive and successful day at that 😁

The first task was a trip to Rochdale to service a BBQ trailer (yes, you read that right) and a refrigeration trailer for a catering company. Neither had been serviced in a long time and moving forwards they are to be done every 6 months, so today was a bigger job to get them up to spec :)

Up first was the BBQ trailer which has had 7 years of hard use, so whilst it's unbraked the bearings still need thoroughly cleaning and repacking. So out those came looking like wet tar, stripped them down and packed in new lovely grease ☺️ whilst looking at the trailer I found the side to be coming loose so I got that repaired whilst I was there with a few rivets and a bolt.

Next was the fridge trailer which was built on an old, but very well made chassis. It was the same story again with cleaning out all the bearings and regreasing them. The brakes whilst rusty and grubby were very healthy so just need a bit of spit and polish πŸ˜€ I'll see both of these again in 6 months!

Honestly, I swear it's never sunny in England... πŸ˜…

At least I wasn't having to seal up holes in the roof of a campervan or anything... Oh wait, that's exactly what I was doing. The first job was to seal up the holes left behind when an awning got ripped off the side of a campervan. Not good!

A few options were mulled over and in the end we decided to go with stainless steel blanking plates adhered over the holes. So the first step was to scrape off all the sealant. That was also the second, third and fourth step as there was so much and it really didn't want to come off πŸ˜‚

The exposed metal was treated with a rust converter, flattened and then the new plates were stuck over the top. Not that you'd know, because it seems by this point I was soaked to to the bone and just stopped taking pictures πŸ™ƒ

After that was a service on an Eriba :) it's been sat for a couple of years as the owner hasd moved house so it needed a good going over. It didn't take long to spot the first issue, which was quite a big one, as the awning was literally falling off! Deja vu anyone? It's been installed incorrectly in the past so the mounts aren't anywhere near how they are supposed to be.

When I went to drop the spare I found the wheel carrier to have rusted and snapped, so I removed the wheel entirely and left it inside as if this was to come off on the motorway it would leave a tremendous amount of damage 😭 other than that though it was all good, with just the odd thing out of date.

Today I went to meet Abbey... I mean, service an Abbey. The owner had very kindly moved it to a back road so I could work on it without being run over which is always a relief πŸ˜‚

For an older caravan it was doing quite well with just the odd ni**le. It had some damp on the back wall which was found to be the rear window hinge, which was quite literally falling off. So I reckon that needs sorting!

After that I went to look at a campervan with a pump which would run constantly. A couple of minutes of investigation found a leak, which means the pump is constantly trying to pressurise the system which is obviously impossible, so the endless cycle continues πŸ˜… I'll return to that as the only way to access the pipework is entirely removed the seat panels.

And from there I fitted a new tap to an Elddis as the owner had tried themselves but got the wrong tap so gave up, and got a heater up and running in a Hobby 😁
