🎥 We are back at Madley Primary School!
Before meeting our fantastic Year 3 Loo Ambassadors, we talked to the Headteacher Lee Batstone about our exciting partnership with the school and what today's visit entailed.
Joined by our valued industry partners, Stuart Hands MBA Hands from Tork (an Essity brand), Mark Wintle from P-Wave®, Brendon Dunham from Dunhams Washroom Systems Ltd, Vicky Stables from Healthy B's – Bowels, Bladders and Bathrooms, together with Charlotte Haines Lyon Associate Professor from York St John University joining us virtually, we are working with the children to explore how their ideas can help shape better school washrooms.
From sustainability and washroom design to health, wellbeing and creating spaces where every child feels safe, comfortable and confident, today is all about listening to young voices and showing them that their opinions really do matter.
Watch our interview with Mr Batstone and Becky.

What a privilege it was to represent the British Toilet Association on Good Morning Britain this morning.
I had the pleasure of meeting Lee East, whose personal story about being fined for urinating in a lay-by due to his poor prostate health has highlighted a much bigger issue, the ongoing loss of public toilets across the UK. With around 50% of public toilets having closed in the last 10 years, it is a conversation that urgently needs to be had.
During the discussion, I highlighted that 14 million people in the UK, almost 1 in 5 of us, live with bowel or bladder problems, while around 3 million men are affected by an enlarged prostate. These figures alone demonstrate just one group of people who rely on access to public toilets every day. When you also consider older people, pregnant women, families with young children, disabled people, and those with other medical conditions, it becomes clear that accessible public toilets are not a luxury, they are an essential public service.
This message aligns so closely with the work we do through the Loo of The Year Awards Ltd. For nearly four decades, the Awards have been championing the importance of providing clean, safe, accessible and well-managed toilet facilities, while recognising those organisations that invest in raising standards. Education and awareness have always been at the heart of what we do.
The British Toilet Association has also been campaigning for many years, calling on the Government to develop a national strategic plan to improve and increase the provision of public toilets. Unfortunately, there is currently no legal requirement for local councils to provide or fund public toilets, leaving many authorities unable to prioritise this essential service despite the growing need.
It was wonderful to meet Lee and hear his story firsthand. His courage in speaking out is helping to shine a light on an issue that affects millions of people every day.
A huge thank you to Suzannah Reid and Ed Balls for welcoming us onto the sofa and giving this important issue a national platform. Every conversation helps raise awareness that access to clean, safe public toilets is about health, dignity, inclusion and enabling people to live their lives without fear or embarrassment.
Together, we can keep this conversation moving forward and continue making the case that public toilets are not a luxury, they are a necessity.

What a day yesterday turned out to be! 🌞

We were up bright and early and off to London for a really positive meeting with a potential new client – fingers crossed for what comes next! 🤞

From there, it was straight to the River Thames to join the fantastic Phil Smith and The Hill Club for their Cleaning & Facilities Management Summer Networking Event. Wow... what an afternoon! Sunshine, the beautiful London skyline, plenty of laughter, great conversations and the chance to catch up with so many lovely people from across the industry. Sometimes business networking doesn't feel like work at all!

As if that was not enough, the day finished with something very special as we celebrated a belated birthday for Jane Kibble our wonderful Awards Manager at the Loo of The Year Awards Ltd, with a trip to ABBA Voyage. What an experience! The music, the atmosphere and the technology were simply incredible – there was definitely plenty of singing along! 🎶✨

Today it is back to Herefordshire, catching up on everything that accumulated while we were away, before heading straight back out this evening for the Herefordshire Means Business Ltd 10th Anniversary celebrations.

Some days are busy... and then there are days like yesterday! We are feeling very grateful for the opportunities, the people we meet along the way and the chance to enjoy a little fun too. Here is to making the most of every moment! 😊

New Podcast Episode – Behind the Scenes of the Loo of the Year Awards with Jane Kibble

What does it take to keep the Loo of the Year Awards running smoothly behind the scenes?
In our latest episode, I'm joined by Jane Kibble, our Loo of the Year Awards Manager, who has been part of the team for the past 10 years.
Jane shares her journey from a career in childcare to becoming an integral part of the awards, and reflects on how the business has evolved since Charles and I took over in 2021. From marketing the awards and supporting entrants to coordinating inspections and preparing for the biggest day in our calendar, Jane offers a fascinating insight into the work that happens throughout the year.
We also discuss:
Why the awards mean so much to entrants.
How social media and teamwork have helped the business grow.
The importance of accessible and Changing Places toilets.
Why education has a vital role in improving washroom standards.
What really happens behind the scenes on Awards Day.
The new award category Jane would love to see introduced.
Jane's passion, organisation and enthusiasm shine through in this conversation, and you'll also discover the one thing that gives her the biggest buzz in her role!

📱 It’s
A day celebrating the platforms that connect us, share stories, and spark conversations across the world.
So let us talk about something you do not often see trending on those platforms…
Away From Home washrooms 🚻
People happily post their lunch 🍔
Their coffee ☕
Their holidays 🌴
Even their pets 🐶
But rarely do we celebrate the spaces that quietly make everyday life possible.
Because great washrooms are part of every journey, in workplaces, events, attractions, hospitality, and transport hubs, supporting millions of experiences every single day.
And when they are done well, they make a real difference:
✨ Clean hands
✨ Comfort and dignity
✨ Accessibility for all
✨ Safer, better public experiences
✨ Pride in the places we visit and work in
So on Social Media Day, we are giving a shout-out across all platforms to the unsung heroes behind them, the cleaning technicians/operatives, attendants, facilities teams, designers, suppliers and operators who make it all work so seamlessly most people barely notice.

And while we are talking about celebrating standards…
🚻 The Loo of the Year Awards entry deadline of 31st July is fast approaching, do not miss the chance to showcase your facilities.

Because the best washrooms may not always go viral.....
…but they absolutely deserve to be recognised.
