Getting old now these MPS, a quick tidy up underneath turned into a full bare metal underside restoration. Updates to follow once it's all priced back together.

🛠️ Project Update: Mk1 Mazda 3 MPS Restoration 🚗

We’re back on this white Mk1 MPS. The car is currently up at DST Rustworx in Driffield for some rust repairs, but as these things go, it’s quickly escalated into a much bigger job than first anticipated.

The more we stripped off the car, the more corrosion we uncovered. To do this right, we've had to go all out—the engine, full drivetrain, both front and rear subframes, fuel tank, and brake lines have all been dropped. Every single clip, bracket, and rubber grommet has been stripped from underneath to leave a completely bare underside.

The Plan of Attack:

• Stripping the floorpan back to bare metal.

• Chopping out the rot and welding in fresh steel.

• Full chemical treatment and a complete protective paint job.

The Reality for UK MPS:

Unfortunately, this is exactly the stage these cars are at in the UK right now. Years of harsh winter road salt combined with a lack of rust prevention from the factory have taken a massive toll on the chassis. Underside rot is the main reason these models are being scrapped left, right, and center, and it's why there are so few clean ones left on the road.

It’s a massive undertaking, but it's the only way to properly save the car and get it structurally sound again.

Updates on the fabrication and rebuild to follow.

Workshop Update: Lead Times & New Terms

Hello again,

Between massive lead-time delays on parts and recent logistical hurdles, turnaround times have been pushed back further than I’d like. This has created an ongoing snowball effect that is frustrating for everyone involved.

To get the queue moving properly and ensure jobs aren't being held up, I am implementing the following changes to how the workflow is managed:

Current Progress & Queue Management

• Ramp Delays: I’ve had one primary ramp occupied for 3 months straight due to back-ordered components. This has had a massive impact on workshop capacity and has delayed scheduling for every other customer in the queue.

• Communication & Workflow: I’ve had several jobs reach the top of the queue where work begins, and then all contact from the customer stops—or I am told the work can no longer be afforded. This completely stalls the workshop and unfairly impacts all my other customers who are waiting.

• The Reality of the Platform: Unfortunately, these cars aren't cheap to run or modify. With their age and the rust-related issues we are seeing now, many jobs are turning into partial restorations. These are enthusiast cars, and often the cost of the work exceeds the market value of the vehicle. Please ensure you are financially prepared for the work you are requesting; at the moment, the workshop is being used as long-term storage, which isn't sustainable.

• Queue Reorganisation: To keep things productive, the schedule is being rearranged. If a job is stalled due to parts, non-payment, or a lack of communication, it will be moved out of the active queue immediately to make room for those ready to progress.

- New Billing Structure (Effective Immediately) -

To keep the workshop running smoothly and to help spread the cost of larger repairs, the following terms now apply:

• Parts: All parts must be paid for in full before they are ordered. I don't have the luxury of being able to lay out for parts, so these must be cleared upfront to secure your components and get started with the work.

• Progress Payments: Due to the extent of these jobs, they take considerable time. It is very difficult for a business to wait months for a single final payment, so we are moving to a weekly billing cycle for labour and additional work.

• Live Updates: Invoices will be updated daily as hours are logged and sent across to you weekly. Payments will need to be made upon receipt to keep the work flowing.

• The Benefit: This helps manage workshop overheads and, more importantly, prevents a daunting "big final bill" for you at the end of the job.

Moving Forward

It’s been a very difficult 3 years with many ups and downs that honestly should have closed the doors. However, I really enjoy working on this platform and have met some great customers along the way. I like to think I know enough about these cars now to provide a top-quality service and keep them on the road for a bit longer.

I appreciate the patience of everyone who has stuck with me through these delays. All customers who currently have a vehicle with me will be contacted individually to be updated on their specific position in the reorganised queue.

Cheers,
Alex

Just wanted to give a straight update on where things are at with MPS UK.
I’m currently facing a massive backlog and things are moving a lot slower than I’d like.
Between some serious delays getting parts delivered and certain jobs taking way longer than they should have, the schedule has taken a hit.
On top of that, having to chase unpaid bills holds everything up even further. It’s a snowball effect—when one car stays on the ramp longer than planned, it pushes every single booking behind it further down the line.
I’m working through the pile as fast as I can to get everyone back on the road, but I wanted to be transparent about what’s causing the delays.

To all my valued customers, thank you for your incredible patience and understanding over the past months. I owe you a full explanation for the delays, the slower pace of work, and the challenges my business has faced.

Two weeks ago, on October 13th, 2025, a very stressful and challenging 2.5-year chapter for my family and business finally closed.

This difficulty began with a former customer, "RSM." When I first took on the workshop and faced significant overheads, I was perhaps too eager and naive, accepting any work that came my way.

The situation spiraled when I had to cut ties with RSM due to unreliable payments and manipulation. This decision was not taken well. A few days later, RSM returned with two other men and attacked me at the workshop, using an angle grinder as a threat and stealing valuable customer car parts, tools, and a lockbox of customer keys.

The aftermath of this attack was devastating, hitting both my personal safety and the business's core stability. The theft of tools and customer parts, combined with the sudden loss of work and the inability to operate effectively for a long period, left me with significant business and personal debt. The recovery required a complete rebuild of my professional resources, which has been a major financial battle.

Worse still, this traumatic event led to online rumours and malicious gossip being circulated. These false narratives, combined with the visible decline in my work output due to my personal struggle, caused customers to lose trust and pushed new work away, severely damaging the reputation I had worked so hard to build.

As a result, I lost work, customers, money, trust, confidence, and nearly my life. I went into a very dark place for a long time, fighting to get out and carry on.

This post isn't for sympathy or to make excuses. It is to state the facts, close this dark chapter, and move forward with absolute clarity.

The good news is that with the case now completely resolved and RSM sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for the robbery, an enormous weight has been lifted. I can finally feel safe again in the workshop and no longer have to look over my shoulder, which has been essential for my recovery and focus.

I know jobs have been pushed back and many of you have been waiting patiently. I only have one pair of hands and limited time due to running a business and having a young family.

I am now dedicating my full, secure, and focused attention to catching up on the backlog and rebuilding the trust that was unfairly eroded by the actions of one malicious individual and the resulting gossip. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sticking with me.

Alex
