🚨From 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.

If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:

✅ any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked

✅ the test centre you first booked at on that current booking

If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June – not where you first booked.

Continuing our series on Show Me Tell Me questions, here's this week's example.

One example you could be asked:

Tell me how you'd check that the headlights and tail lights are working. You don't need to exit the vehicle.

It's a 'tell me' question, which means you just need to explain what you would do rather than physically carry out the check.

You'd explain that you'd turn on the ignition if needed, operate the light switch to turn the headlights on, and then walk around the vehicle to visually check that both the headlights at the front and the tail lights at the rear are working correctly.
It sounds simple, but it's easy to overcomplicate it under pressure. The key is to mention both steps: switching the lights on and physically checking them by walking around the car.

Remember, knowing your Show Me Tell Me questions before test day means one less thing to worry about when you're sitting in that seat.

🚗 Bank Holiday Weekend is here! Are you hitting the roads? 🏖️

With thousands of extra drivers out this weekend, here are our top tips for a safe and stress-free long journey:

Plan your route before you set off and check for roadworks!

Fill up before you go, don't risk running low on a busy weekend.

Take regular breaks, every 2 hours is recommended to stay alert.

Stay hydrated, tiredness and dehydration are a dangerous combo.

Keep your phone away, no text is worth it.

Keep your distance, traffic will be heavier than usual, give yourself extra stopping time.

Check your car tyres, oil, water and lights before you leave.

Plan for delays, leave earlier or later to avoid peak traffic times.

Wherever you're headed this bank holiday, stay safe and enjoy the journey! 🙌

Do you know what to look for when choosing a driving instructor?

🚗 Approved driving instructors (ADIs) and trainee driving instructors must display a certificate in the windscreen of their vehicle when they are providing paid instruction.

They display:
🟢 a green certificate if they’re a fully qualified driving instructor
🩷 a pink certificate if they’re a trainee and are going through the qualification process

Continuing our series on Show Me Tell Me questions, here's this week's example…

Tell me how you'd check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

You'd explain that you'd visually inspect the tyres for any cuts or bulges in the sidewall, as these would make the tyre unsafe to use. For tread depth, the legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre's width, and around the entire outer circumference.
A simple way to check this is by using a tread depth gauge, or as a rough guide, using the border of a 20p coin. If the outer band of the coin is hidden when inserted into the tread, the tyre is likely above the legal limit.

It's also worth knowing that tyre condition can vary across different makes and models of vehicle, so always check all four tyres.

These questions matter because they show you understand how to keep your vehicle safe before and during a drive. It's not just about passing the test, it's about knowing how to spot potential issues early and making sure the car is safe to use.

Test day can feel nerve-wracking — and that's completely normal. Every driver on the road has been exactly where you are right now.

Here are a few things to remember on the day…

You've already done the hard work. Your lessons, your practice, your progress — that doesn't disappear when you sit in the test car. Trust what you've learned.

Your examiner is not there to catch you out. They're simply there to assess your driving. They want you to do well — it's not an interrogation, it's an opportunity to show what you can do.

Nerves can actually help you. A little adrenaline keeps you focused and alert. The key is not to let them take over — take a breath, and drive the way you've been trained to.

Made a mistake? Keep going. One error doesn't mean a fail. Many people make a minor fault and still pass. Don't let one moment affect the rest of your test — stay composed and carry on.

You are more ready than you think. Your instructor wouldn't have put you in for your test if they didn't believe you were ready. Have confidence in yourself and the preparation you've put in.
