One of the biggest mistakes we can make is assuming that because a learner can't do something independently, they aren't ready to attempt it at all.

The two are not the same thing.

Very often, learners are capable of much more than we give them credit for.

What they need is the right level of support at the right time.

This short clip is the final takeaway from a new Video Hub video.

Most instructors understand full talk-through, prompted and independent.

What I often see, though, is those levels being treated as fixed stages.

Almost as if once a learner reaches independence, they should stay there.

The reality is far more flexible than that.

A learner can be independent in one situation and require significant support in the next.

That's not a lack of progress.

It's simply a different task requiring a different level of support.
