Everyone at the Order Of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps - Rathdrum unit just wants to say a huge thanks to Wicklow Vintage Club for picking us as one of the beneficiaries of their brilliant Vintage & Classic Show last month.

We had the chance to meet up this evening, where they very kindly presented us with a generous donation. We really appreciate their kindness and ongoing support for what we do in the community.

Support like this makes a big difference, helping us keep our equipment up to date, continue our training, and stay ready to provide first aid and ambulance cover at events around the county and beyond.

Thanks again to everyone involved in putting together such a great event and for thinking of us. It really means a lot, and we’ll make sure the donation is put to good use

HOT WEATHER WARNING – PLEASE CHECK ON OLDER AND VULNERABLE PEOPLE

The Rathdrum Order of Malta would like to remind everyone to take extra care during the current spell of hot weather.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow High Temperature Warning for Ireland, valid from Tuesday until Friday morning, with temperatures expected to exceed 27°C and night-time temperatures remaining above 15°C. Potential impacts include heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, and increased risks around lakes and beaches.

Older adults, young children, and people with long-term medical conditions are particularly vulnerable during periods of high heat. Please take a few moments to check on elderly relatives, neighbours, friends, and anyone living alone over the coming days.

Top Tips for Staying Safe:

Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day and opening windows when temperatures drop in the evening.

Stay in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is strongest.

Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.

Apply a high-factor sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply regularly, particularly after swimming or sweating. Sunburn can occur quickly during hot weather and increases the risk of skin damage.

Cool down with a cool shower, damp cloth, or by placing cool water on your skin.

Avoid excessive alcohol, caffeine, and hot drinks, which can contribute to dehydration.

Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
Dizziness or feeling faint
Headache
Excessive sweating
Nausea or vomiting
Muscle cramps
Feeling very thirsty
Pale, clammy skin
Tiredness or weakness
If someone is showing signs of heat exhaustion, move them to a cool place, give them water, and help cool their skin.

In an emergency, or if someone becomes confused, unresponsive, has a seizure, stops sweating despite being very hot, or you suspect heatstroke, call 999 or 112 immediately.

A simple phone call, visit, or check-in could make a real difference to someone vulnerable during this warm weather.

Please stay safe, stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun, and look out for one another over the next few days.
