Almost 38 years ago, Pat Slockum walked into Ben Mynatt Chevrolet as a young technician just looking for direction. He had been stocking shelves at a local grocery store and knew he wanted something more, but had no idea it would turn into a lifelong career and a second home.

He started through General Motor’s Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP), learning the trade and coming back to apply it hands-on. Things have changed a great deal over the years. Back then, he was adjusting carburetors—now he’s working on electric vehicles.

He was always dedicated to getting better at his job. “I’d take service manuals home just to study. I wanted to get better, to do things right.”

That’s something Ben Mynatt always stood for—doing what’s right and taking care of people.

“I’ll never forget him walking through the service area, checking in, or the day he hopped in the passenger seat and told me to test drive one of the first Luminas.”
He built more than a dealership—he built a family.

From Christmas breakfasts to trips to the mountains to cut down trees, Ben Mynatt’s Family of Dealerships has always been about more than work. It’s about people. It’s about trust.

“Customers come here because they know we’ll treat them right—not upsell, not cut corners, but take care of them like they’re our own.

After 25 years as a technician, I’m now shop foreman, and what matters most to me is passing that mindset on. We’ve got a new generation of technicians coming up—talented, hardworking young people—and I tell them the same thing: treat every car like it belongs to your mom, your son, your daughter.

We had an incredible evening earlier this month celebrating 50 years of excellence during the Cabarrus Chamber Business After Hours! 🎉

The evening featured a special proclamation from Concord Mayor Steve Morris, proclaiming, “…May 12, 2026, as a day to celebrate the 50th Anniversary to the Ben Mynatt Dealership, in appreciation of its longstanding dedication, service, and commitment to the citizens and community of Concord.”

Guests also heard inspiring remarks from Chamber President and CEO Barbi Jones and Ben Mynatt Dealerships President Cyndie Mynatt as they reflected on five decades of service, leadership, and community partnership.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and to the Ben Mynatt team for their continued commitment to Cabarrus County and beyond. Here’s to the next 50 years! 🚗✨
