A quick visibility check now beats squinting through November:
1. Walk around your car with the lights on. Check headlights, brake lights, turn signals and the license plate bulb.
2. Look at your wiper blades. Streaks or chatter mean they're done.
3. Top off washer fluid with a winter blend so it won't freeze on the glass.
4. Clean the inside of your windshield. That haze glows under oncoming headlights.

Coolant is a mix of antifreeze and water. Over time it breaks down and loses protection, and you can't tell by looking at the reservoir.

4. The radiator cap and any slow leaks
