🚔 기아 텔루라이드, 미국 경찰차 시장 진출 가능할까?

미국 조지아 공장에서 생산되는 기아 텔루라이드는 넓은 실내 공간과 AWD 시스템, 높은 상품성을 갖춘 만큼 경찰차로도 충분한 잠재력을 가지고 있습니다.

하지만 일반 텔루라이드에 경찰 래핑과 경광등만 추가한다고 ‘Police Interceptor’가 되는 것은 아닙니다. 실제 추격용 경찰차로 판매하려면 냉각 시스템과 브레이크, 서스펜션, 변속기 내구성, 전기 시스템을 대폭 강화하고 고속 추격 테스트까지 통과해야 합니다.

현재 미국 경찰차 시장은 포드 Police Interceptor Utility, 쉐보레 Tahoe PPV, 닷지 Durango Pursuit가 사실상 장악하고 있습니다. 차량 성능뿐 아니라 경찰 장비 업피터, 정부 조달 네트워크, 전국 서비스망까지 이미 구축돼 있어 신규 진입 장벽도 상당히 높습니다.

텔루라이드의 장점은 분명합니다. 미국 현지 생산, 넉넉한 공간, AWD, 경쟁력 있는 가격은 경찰기관이 원하는 조건과 잘 맞습니다. 다만 기아가 실제로 진출하려면 전용 경찰 패키지 개발과 장기 유지보수 체계를 먼저 마련해야 합니다.

기술적으로는 가능하지만, 사업적으로는 쉽지 않은 시장. 그래도 기아가 북미 플릿 사업을 확대한다면 텔루라이드 경찰차가 등장할 가능성은 충분히 있습니다.
