Please read through this post, especially if you are a driver, as there are some key things that drivers should know that will be talked about here.
We know that we will have a lot of new faces at the Inaugural Wheat State Showcase Presented By Horizon Promotions this November, so we wanted to mock up a little diagram for you all so you know what to expect.
First off, we recommend that all drivers coming from the SOUTH take 11th Street / K-51 (Same road, two names) to Road 13, then take Road 13 northbound to the track. Road 13 is the road that runs directly next to the track. Google & Apple Maps will take you up Highway 56 instead, which is the road that is running diagonally to the northwest side of the track. If you take Hwy 56, you will be forced to make a sharp right turn followed by a sharp left to get into the track. It will be MUCH easier to enter via Road 13, and it is no further on distance or time, it just takes you through Hugoton instead of around the outskirts.
Please be mindful that Dirtona Raceway is a pickup/dropoff zone for the local school buses in the morning and the afternoon. Please be mindful and respectful of students waiting for the bus, as well as those crossing the road due to the bus. Our hope is that some open trailers pulling race cars are rolling in to catch the attention of these kids/parents and we get some new fans in the stands for the weekend, so again, please be respectful of them, and we might make some new race fans because of it.
Next, the pit area is large, but we are asking everyone to try to pack in tighter. We will have staff on hand to help direct you where to park. If you are racing alongside friends or family, we recommend you guys try to arrive at the same time to make it easier.
There will be no RVs or Camping Trailers allowed in the pits. They must park either in the fan parking, or get a spot at the RV park across the street.
Our gate workers will be stopping you at the gate. You will stay inside of your vehicle. We will have you sign the waiver forms and pay for your pit bands there. The gate workers will have a list of the drivers that paid their pre-entry. If our Google Sheet says that you did not fully pay the entry, and our email record shows no receipt for purchase, we will be charging you $50 extra at the gate. You have been warned. It does not matter that you filled out the form, what matters is that you have paid.
After you get your bands, you must proceed inside the Pit Shack, where you will be asked to sign forms with Ellen (if needed). Then you will proceed to draw your pill with Vicki. This is also where you will rent a transponder, if needed. We are using the WESTHOLD transponder system, these are the yellow/orange ones. If you own your own, fantastic! Please be prepared to give us your transponder number. If not, you will have to pay to rent one and leave your license with us each day. MyLaps transponders, which are red, blue, or black, will NOT work with the timing system.
Now, keeping this all in mind, we encourage everyone to come with CASH on hand. It is very expensive for us to run cards, as we have to charge a hefty service fee to run our processing system. We will be set up to take card, but when buying pit passes, keep in mind that you will be spending hundreds of dollars at one time, and our service fee runs on a percentage which means a higher chunk of added change. We have seen people save upwards of $25 by paying with cash instead of card.
The Drivers Meeting will be in front of the Pit Shack each day at 6:25pm. Pill draw will close 5 minutes after the conclusion of the Drivers Meeting, or at 6:40pm, whichever occurs first. If you are going to be late on any day, please notify us and we will ensure that you are accounted for and that our gate workers know to wait up for you.
The format is on the event in the "events" tab, which is also the same event we tag in every post. Be sure to click "going" or "interested" on it. We will run a full show each on Thursday and Friday. Pilldraw, heat races, mains. Saturday we will take the total accumulated points from the first two days and line you up for Saturday. If you are unable to make it for Thursday, but plan on making it for at least Saturday, if not both Friday and Saturday, then you should pay your pre-entry. Not only will you save yourselves $50 at the gate, but you will still earn points, even if you aren't racing, which betters your position for Saturday. It is possible to have two bad days in a row and still come out the winner on Saturday, we have seen it before, multiple times. We have also seen somebody have one bad night, one good night, and then go win it. Thursday can be your bad night.
We will be running a tight show, especially the first two nights. We will be green flag by 7:00pm and we will be aiming to be done from 9:00pm to 10:00pm. We have run two hour shows in the past from start to finish, so it is nothing new to our crew to be efficient when needed. Please prepare accordingly.
If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to ask. Let's make this one badass show.
