Diagnosis today on this 2017 Subaru Outback. The customer came to us with a check engine light, and the code stored was P0971 (Pressure Control Solenoid C Control Circuit High).

There are a couple of things worth checking with a code like this, but we know what it typically points back to: the pressure control solenoid "C" inside the valve body. Over time, the internal electrical coil can degrade or burn out, causing resistance to drift out of spec like we saw.

Spec should read between 2-4 ohms. We tested and found 37 ohms, which is confirmation the part has failed.

Subaru's official fix is replacing the entire valve body, but in today's economy, that's just not realistic for a lot of people. So we're going to track down an aftermarket solenoid to fix the actual issue and save her as much money as possible.

Stay tuned for the repair.

Here’s the aftermath on this 2007 Chrysler Aspen. Today we tackled inner and outer tie rods, both front wheel bearings, and both front axles.

As we mentioned before, rust had eaten away the axle threads to the point where they were unusable. Once we had the new axles in hand, we got straight to work.

A good reminder for anyone doing this kind of job: take the time to clean the knuckles properly before installing new bearings. It helps everything seat flush and makes the whole install go a lot smoother.

On older vehicles like this one, heat, impact, and penetrating oil are your best friends. Stay persistent, and you’ll get through it.

This car is now properly repaired and safe to drive. If you’ve got an older vehicle that needs this kind of work, reach out, we’re ready for it.

No heat this morning? Don't wait for January.

When a heater blows cold, I start under the hood, not behind the dash. I check the coolant level, then feel both heater hoses at the firewall once the engine's warm. Both hot but still no heat? That points to the blend door. One hot, one cold? Usually a clogged heater core or air trapped in the system. Five minutes of testing keeps you from paying for parts you didn't need.

We're also doing brakes this season (Ohio salt is rough on calipers) and suspension, since pothole season is right around the corner. Every repair comes with a free winter-ready check: heat, coolant, battery, brakes, tires, wipers and lights.

We come to your driveway. No trip fee.

Front and rear pads and rotors worn out? Struts leaking?

Don’t sweat it — at Sides Mobile Automotive, we come to you. Saving you money, and more importantly, saving you time.

Relax in the house while we work, or get it knocked out in the parking lot while you’re on the clock. Either way, we’ve got you covered!

This one got all four corners done — new pads and rotors front and rear — plus both front struts and link pins. The struts were leaking, so we swapped them out before they got worse. Now the vehicle handles exceptionally and stops perfectly!

You see that rotor screw? Ever wondered if you actually need it? Pro tip— YOU DO NOT 😂

The set screw was seized solid like they always are, so I hit it with the impact driver, and it cracked right loose. If that ever fails, a quick kiss of the torch gets it done. 🫡

Here’s the truth: once your wheel is torqued down, the lug nuts hold that rotor 100%. That little screw did its one job at the factory and has been freeloading ever since. So if yours strips out or goes missing, don’t sweat it — you DONT need it

That squeak isn’t your brakes dying — it’s them warning you.

Customer figured the rear brakes were toast….he was right I pulled the wheels and there it was: the little metal squeaker tab on the pad just barely touching the rotor. That’s it doing its job — telling you the pad’s getting thin before anything actually grinds. Swapped the rear pads and rotors and she’s quiet again.

That noise is a heads-up, not a death sentence. But don’t sit on it too long….you don’t want a bigger bill🙃

Hearing it? Let’s get your brakes handled. 📞 (614) 202-1082
