When DYI goes horrible wrong
2 year DYI build of a Ford 6.0 engine
Completed and won’t start plus leaks coolant from head gasket……which is not a thing with this platform, as in short of frozen water in block/ head they just don’t leak like this.
Cab up engine torn down this morning

Owner got a head stud washer on the stud under the gasket, installed gasket and head, torque the ARP head studs down to the proper 210 foot pounds of torque didn’t notice that one of those studs under the nut was missing a washer and managed to crack the block the head and fill the entire motor everything that touches oil with water

So DYI saved him about $2,100 in labor cost having us or another shop do the stud job, correctly.
But cost himself a complete long block oil pan to cylinder head, an oil cooler, high-pressure oil pump, set of injectors, low pressure oil pump, oil pressure regulator, and some other things. I’m not thinking about .
Doing it yourself is a great way to save money. Just make sure you’re not in over your head share this with your friends maybe save them a headache.
