Have you noticed a ticking, tapping, or hissing noise coming from your exhaust system? Maybe you can smell exhaust inside the vehicle? It may be tempting to put it off, especially if the vehicle still seems to be running fine, but an exhaust leak is something you shouldn't ignore.

An exhaust leak isn't just an annoying noise. Exhaust gases can contain harmful pollutants, including carbon monoxide, and a leak in the wrong location can allow those gases to enter the passenger compartment of your vehicle. That is a SERIOUS safety concern for you and your passengers.

Did you also know that an exhaust leak can affect how your engine runs and potentially hurt your fuel mileage? Your vehicle uses oxygen sensors in the exhaust system to help the engine computer determine how much oxygen is present in the exhaust. That information helps the computer adjust the engine's fuel trim--whether it needs to add or subtract fuel to maintain the proper air/fuel mixture.

A leak, especially one located ahead of an oxygen sensor, can allow outside air to enter the exhaust stream. The sensor may then see oxygen that shouldn't be there--potentially causing the computer to make fuel adjustments that aren't actualy needed. This can lead to poor fuel economy, driveability issues, and sometimes a check engine light.

If you hear an unusual exhaust noise, smell exhaust, notice a change in fuel mileage, or have a check engine light---don't ignore it, it's definitely worth having your vehicle properly inspected.

Don't wait until a small exhaust leak turns into a bigger, and potentially more expensive or possibly dangerous, problem.

Have a great rest of your week and drive SAFE!

As summer comes to an end (first official day of Autumn is next week!), it's time to start making sure your vehicle is prepared for the upcoming Ohio winter.

I lost track of how many times I got a panicked phone call last year...I waited too long to get tires and now I'm stuck in my driveway! Or worse...I slid off the road trying to get to work! Now we're scrambling to get tires replaced and that's the best case scenario of not being in a wreck due to bad tires.

A quick appointment for tire inspection can save you a headache in the coming months. We are going to look for:

-no sign of dry rot or cracking **dry rot is the deterioriation of the rubber in a tire; tires can develop cracks in the sidewalls and between the tread blocks even when there is still plenty of tread; as the rubber breaks down due to age, the tire becomes susceptible to air loss, tread separation, or even a blow out---especially as the temperatures drop

-good tread depth which is critical for maintaining traction on wet, snowy, and icy roads

-correct tire pressures **colder temperatures affect the air in your tires; as the weather gets colder, tire pressures can drop which can affect handling, fuel economy, and tire wear

-uneven tire wear **this can be a sign of alignment problems, worn steering/suspension component, improper tire pressure, or other issues; catching these issues early can help extend the life of your tires

If your tires are needing replaced we will be able to give you an estimate on multiple options/price points!
We currently have a $70 mail in rebate available for select Cooper tires (purchased now-end of November) as well!

Call 330-879-2609 today for a quick peace of mind appointment to make sure you're driving safely in the coming months!

Have a great rest of your week and enjoy this last week of summer!

School is officially back in session which means...summer is wrapping up soon and FALL is right around the corner!

Is your battery ready for the next season? When it comes to your vehicle's battery, starting system, and charging system--don't wait until the first cold morning to find out there is a problem.

We often think of batteries failing in the winter, but the summer heat can be just as hard, if not harder, on your battery. High temperatures accelerate the chemical reactions inside a battery and can shorten its overall life.

Your battery is only one part of the equation. Your vehicle's starting and charging systems need to work together properly. A weak alternator, excessive electrical draw, poor connections, or a starter that is beginning to fail can all put additional stress on the battery.

As we turn the corner from summer towards fall and winter, now is a great time to have your charging and starting systems tested. A simple test can help identify a weak battery or charging problem before it turns into a no start situation.

Don't let the first COLD morning be the first time you discover your battery is on its way out!! A little preventative maintenance now can save you a lot of inconvenience later!

Check engine light coming on?

One of the most common reasons we are seeing that check engine light come on EVAP system issues.

EVAP stands for evaporative emissions control system...the job of this system is to prevent harmful fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. Gasoline naturally evaporates, and without this system, those vapors vent into the air.

Fuel vapors from your gas tank are routed into a charcoal canister, where they are stored. When conditions are right, the engine opens a purge valve and draws those vapors back into the engine to be burned---essentially recycling fuel that would otherwise be wasted.

It's a simple idea, but the system itself has a lot of components working together:
-gas cap
-charcoal canister
-purge and vent valves
-EVAP lines and hoses
-pressure sensors

Because there are so many parts, there are also a lot of opportunities for something to go wrong. Common EVAP related issues we see include:
-small leaks in hoses and/or lines
-sticking purge or vent valves
-cracked or damaged canisters

The tricky part is that many of these problems don't affect how your vehicle drives. You may not notice anything at all---except that check engine light! Even a small leak can trigger a fault code...over time unresolved EVAP issues can lead to reduced fuel efficiency.

Bottom line:
That check engine light isn't always something major---but it is something important. If your light is on, especially for an EVAP related code, it's best to have it properly diagnosed. What might be a simple fix now can turn into a more involved repair if you wait.

Call now for an appointment and we will keep your vehicle running smooth and efficiently!
