Winston Goodfellow Go far beyond the "influencer"/PR spin, gain real insight and cool original automotive imagery. I was born in California in 1958. I was hooked.

“ONE OF THE WORLD’S LUCKIEST PEOPLE.”
Those six heady words describe how I feel every day. My parents were similar to many in the Golden State at the time—they were passionate about cars. I grew up riding in (and later driving) a 1919 Jordan, a 1925 Willys Knight and a 1928 Ford Model A. But it wasn’t until the mid-1970s and high school that the automotive world truly seduced me. Sports remained “it” until my junior year when I saw a 1966 Aston Martin DB6. Several months later after stepping outside the basketball gym I was mesmerized by a new Ferrari 365 Boxer parked close by. Weeks after that a Lamborghini Countach LP400 sealed the deal. I graduated from the University of California with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, and entered the financial services industry. After nearly a decade of mutual funds, insurance, and business and personal financial planning, I decided to chase my automotive passion. I have since become an award-winning writer and photographer, testing and photographing performance and luxury cars new and old, and interviewing their creators. In the process I discovered one of life’s great secrets:
“IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO, VERY RARELY IS IT WORK.”

Those decades of experience have led some of my friends to call me their “Car Shaman” or “Car Shrink,” and I’ve taken that passion, wisdom, and viewpoint, and adapted it to today’s world. My Instagram and Facebook feeds, as well as my blog, have become my primary outlets, and I very much appreciate the immediate feedback and perceptions I get from my followers. And now, imagery from recent shoots and my extensive archive can be found in the storefront, where there are fun, cool collections of unique automotive and lifestyle products that stay true to my original passion. In other words, things that I use, wear, and are currently decorating the house! So thank you for taking the time to visit this site. I hope you enjoy exploring my life’s story and work, for every day I still feel like I am one of the world’s luckiest people. Be sure to take a look at the storefront, and follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and on my blog, for I’m regularly posting!

THE EVOLUTION OF MONTEREY, EPISODE 11. To wrap up our series on Car Week, 2026 finds Monterey at a very interesting crossroad. For decades, Car Week celebrated the world’s greatest automobiles, the marques, and the men that created and raced them. Then came the invasion of the supercar yahoos, a group interested only in themselves and “four-wheeled flexing,” and they act with complete disregard for those who live on the peninsula, and everything that came before. I’ve seen lots of changes to Monterey Car Week since the mid-1970s, and nothing has pi**ed off people like this. To put this “invasion” in perspective and shine a spotlight on exactly what is going on, we have created a video called “They Drive” and are putting the finishing touches on it now so watch for it soon. What are your thoughts on the evolution of Car Week, and where things stand today? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and appreciate your input and insights!

THE EVOLUTION OF MONTEREY, EPISODE 10. Monterey 6.0 (2021-present) saw the focus of Car Week go from celebrating automotive history, auctions results, club meets and more to being overrun by a group of self-centered, self-absorbed people who drive their hypercars around simply to get noticed, and another group that follows them like lapdogs. Neither seem to exhibit any regard for the communities on the Monterey peninsula, and the 45 years (and more) of tradition that joyfully existed previously—which has led to a real (and most annoying) schism during at Car Week. What are your thoughts on the evolution of Car Week, and where things stand today? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and appreciate your input and insights!

THE EVOLUTION OF MONTEREY, EPISODE 9. The commercialization of Car Week defined Monterey 5.0, then Covid caused what seemed to be a return to normalcy at Monterey. That was short lived, for Monterey 6.0 saw the most shocking and unexpected change of all, something that had never been seen in the prior 45 years I had attended Car Week. And as you will see in this episode, the change is very irritating for many! What are your thoughts on the evolution of Car Week, and where things stand today? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and appreciate your input and insights!

THE EVOLUTION OF MONTEREY, EPISODE 8. Two words describe Monterey 5.0: “money grab.” Episode 8 in our series on Monterey Car Week covers 2015 to 2020 and how it was defined by an incredible rise in the cost to attend, and how I was starting to wonder if Car Week was losing its soul. For if you could have a great trip to Europe, including the airfare, for the price of going to Monterey, was the value still there? Let me know your thoughts and perceptions in the comments for I read them all, respond to most, and would be most interested in hearing what you think and perceive.

THE EVOLUTION OF MONTEREY, EPISODE 7. When did Monterey Week become more focused on commercialism than heritage? Episode 7 of our series on the evolution of Monterey Car Week notes how auction results became more important than Best of Show at Pebble Beach during this period. Yet, there was also another event that really made Car Week a full week, and most surprisingly, that event was free. What are your thoughts on the evolution of Car Week, and where things stand today? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and appreciate your input and insights!

How does a specific new model reveal by Bentley highlight Monterey 4.0 (mid-2000s to around 2014) and succinctly illustrate a major change in Car Week? In our 6th installment of this series on the evolution of Monterey, we spotlight how Car Week really started moving towards what it is today. Were you there, and if so, what did you recall about that time? How was it similar or different from today? What are your thoughts on Car week in general? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and appreciate your input and insights!

What were the major changes in Monterey 3.0 (1992 to the mid-2000s), and what caused this annual weekend gathering to move towards becoming Car Week? What was the atmosphere like during this time, and how did the new and classic car owners get along? That and more is covered in our 5th episode on the 50 year evolution of Monterey Car Week. Please leave your thoughts on Car Week below, as I read them all.

Our 4th episode on the evolution of Monterey Car Week continues our look at Monterey 2.0 (1985-1991), and how Concorso Italiano and the auctions brought dramatic changes to what had previously been a weekend-long event. What do you remember most fondly? How do you remember this period? Please let me know in the comments, for I read them all and would love to hear your thoughts/insights.

What caused the Pebble Beach Concours and Monterey Car Week to vault to international prominence? The answer is at the crux of this 3rd episode in our series on five decades of evolution of Car Week. I’ve been going to Monterey since around 1975-76, and back in the mid-1980s it was a far cry from what one experiences today. I dub the period that ran from 1985-1991 “Monterey 2.0.” Please leave your thoughts on Car Week below as I read them all and would like to hear your input!

How has Car Week in Monterey changed over the past 50 years? In this second episode of our series, we will talk about Monterey 1.0 when it was just a weekend event, and the interesting, mostly forgotten glue that brought everyone together to celebrate the car and its history. Please leave your thoughts on Car Week below, as I read them all.
