30 Days of Traffic Signs - Day 3
Regulatory Signs

Regulatory signs tell drivers what they must do. Most people think of stop signs, speed limit signs, and no turn signs, but regulatory signs can also be electronic or temporary. If the sign is posted and active, drivers are expected to follow it.

One mistake I see is drivers treating temporary construction signs or electronic signs like suggestions. Just because a sign wasn’t there yesterday doesn’t mean you can ignore it today. If it’s a regulatory sign, it’s creating a rule for drivers.

What’s a regulatory sign you see people ignoring all the time?

30 Days of Traffic Signs - Day 2
Stop Sign

A stop sign means your vehicle must come to a complete stop before proceeding. One easy way to know you’ve actually stopped is to feel the car rock back slightly. Stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection, whichever comes first.

The mistake I see most often is drivers treating stop signs like yield signs and rolling through without ever fully stopping. Even when drivers do stop, many stop too far forward, past the stop line or into the crosswalk, which can create conflicts with pedestrians and limit visibility for everyone.

What do you see more often: drivers rolling through stop signs or stopping in the wrong location?

30 Days of Traffic Signs - Day 1
Stop Here On Red & No Turn On Red

A “Stop Here On Red” sign tells you exactly where your vehicle should stop when facing a red light. Look for an arrow pointing at a line. A “No Turn On Red” sign means you must remain stopped until you receive a green light, even if the intersection appears clear. These signs are often used where turning vehicles could create conflicts with pedestrians, bicyclists, or other traffic.

The mistakes I see most often are drivers stopping past the stop line, blocking crosswalks, or making a right turn when a “No Turn On Red” sign is posted. Both signs are there for a reason, and ignoring them can create hazards for everyone using the intersection.

Have you ever caught yourself noticing one of these signs only after you were already at the intersection?

Is this your first time hearing this?

This is one of the most misunderstood road rules out there. In Oregon, when drivers are making a right turn, are not supposed drive through the bike lane before turning. A lot of drivers were taught differently, which is why this causes so much confusion and close calls.

There have been 4 losses so far this year.

As we head into the hottest months of the year, remember to look out for our youngest passengers.

✅ Always check the back seat.
✅ Lock your vehicle doors.
✅ If you see a child alone in a hot car, call 911 immediately.

Bike lanes only work if bikes can actually use them.

When cars stop, park, or wait in bike lanes, cyclists are forced into traffic, around vehicles, or into unsafe situations they shouldn’t have to deal with.

A lot of drivers get frustrated when bicyclists don’t perfectly follow every rule. But there are also plenty of situations where cars make it almost impossible for cyclists to safely use the road the way they’re supposed to.

Drivers, have you ever been surprised by a bicyclist moving into your lane because the bike lane was blocked?
