🚗👶 CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK 👶🚗
A car seat that is installed correctly in one vehicle may not be installed correctly when moved into another.
Different vehicles have different seat shapes, seat-belt systems and lower-anchor locations. If you move your child’s car seat between vehicles, take the time to carefully reinstall it and double-check the installation every time.
Before your next trip:
✅ Confirm the car seat is appropriate for your child’s age, height and weight
✅ Follow both the car-seat and vehicle manufacturer instructions
✅ Make sure the seat is installed tightly
✅ Check the harness position and fit
✅ Never assume it is secure simply because it was secure in another vehicle

When installing a forward-facing car seat, the top tether is an important part of the installation—not an optional extra to leave hanging behind the seat.
The tether connects the top of the car seat to the designated tether anchor in your vehicle. During a crash, it helps limit the child seat’s forward movement and provides an additional level of protection.
Before your child’s next ride:
✅ Locate the tether strap on the car seat
✅ Find the correct tether anchor in your vehicle
✅ Attach and tighten the tether properly
✅ Check both the car-seat instructions and vehicle owner’s manual
✅ Never attach the tether to a cargo hook or another point unless it is specifically identified as a tether anchor
NHTSA recommends using the tether with a forward-facing car seat—whether the seat is installed using the seat belt or lower anchors—when permitted by both manufacturers.
