🚨⚓ DIESEL IS DIESEL — EVEN WHEN IT’S ON THE WATER! ⚓🔧

Today, DBK Mobile Service & Repair took on something a little different from our usual trucks, buses, and heavy equipment… a sailboat with a two-cylinder diesel engine! 🚤💪

While the application was different, the fundamentals remained the same: diagnose the problem, follow the evidence, and find the root cause instead of guessing.

🔍 THE CUSTOMER’S COMPLAINT: THE ENGINE WAS LOCKED UP!

After a previous attempt to get the engine running, we were called in to investigate.

Here’s how we approached the problem:

🛠️ STEP 1 — INSPECT BEFORE ASSUMING THE WORST
We removed both injectors and inspected the cylinders for signs of catastrophic internal damage. Thankfully, we didn’t find any obvious signs of catastrophic damage during our initial inspection.

⚙️ STEP 2 — INVESTIGATE THE ROTATION ISSUE
The engine would only rotate approximately ¾ of a turn in either direction. We removed the starter to inspect the flywheel and continued working through the possible causes.

🔧 STEP 3 — LOOK BEYOND THE ENGINE
Further investigation led us to a transmission shift linkage that wasn’t extending fully, preventing the transmission from reaching neutral as intended.

💥 STEP 4 — FREE IT UP AND GET IT RUNNING
We also suspected that moisture and corrosion from the marine environment, combined with freezing temperatures, may have contributed to the piston rings sticking to the cylinder walls. We applied PB Blaster into the cylinders, carefully worked the engine back and forth, and were able to free it up.

After reinstalling the injectors, we got the engine running for the customer! ✅

Another tough diesel diagnostic job handled by DBK Mobile Service & Repair! 🔧🚛

This customer had a unit that wouldn’t start. Instead of throwing parts at it, we went straight to work tracking down the root cause.

🔍 THE DIAGNOSIS:
We found the fuel shutoff valve wasn’t receiving the commanded signal needed for proper operation. After tracing the issue through the system, we determined the problem was a faulty ECM (Engine Control Module).

💻 THE REPAIR:
✅ Confirmed the ECM was the source of the problem
✅ Sourced an OEM replacement ECM
✅ Captured a snapshot of the original ECM image
✅ Programmed the replacement ECM and transferred the original image to preserve the necessary configuration

💪 RESULT: Accurate diagnostics. OEM-level programming. The right repair.

Modern diesel engines require more than a basic code reader. Electrical faults, communication issues, and module failures take the right diagnostic software, technical knowledge, and experience to solve correctly.

When a school bus needs major engine work, guessing isn’t an option. At DBK Mobile Service & Repair, we dig into the problem, identify what needs attention, and get to work!

This bus needed more than a quick fix. We tackled major fuel system repairs and EGR system service to address the issues and help get this unit back on the road.

🛠️ HERE’S WHAT THIS REPAIR INCLUDED:

🔴 Complete fuel rail replacement — Cracked threads at the number 6 fuel line connection required replacement of the complete fuel rail.

🔴 Fuel line replacement — Replaced the fuel lines as part of the repair.

🔴 EGR cooler replacement — The existing cooler was clogged and needed replacement.

🔴 EGR delta-P cleaning — Cleaned the differential pressure system components.

🔴 EGR valve cleaning — Addressed carbon buildup and contamination.

🔴 EGR mixer housing cleaning — Cleaned the housing as part of the EGR system service.

A proper Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) can help identify problems before they turn into bigger repairs, unexpected downtime, or serious safety concerns.

We received a call for a leaking wheel seal, and once we got on-site and inspected the truck, we found just how important it is to catch these issues early.

🛠️ HERE’S WHAT WE FOUND AND REPAIRED:

🔴 Replaced the leaking inner wheel seal.

🔴 Found the brake shoes on the leaking side heavily contaminated with axle oil.

🔴 Replaced the brake shoes on BOTH sides of the drive axle.

⚠️ WHY DID WE REPLACE BOTH SIDES?

The brake shoes on the wheel seal side were contaminated so badly with oil that we didn’t want to risk reusing them. Oil-soaked brake linings can compromise braking performance, and cleaning them wasn’t a risk we were willing to take. We replaced the shoes on the opposite side as well to maintain consistent braking components across the axle.
