Monsoon season changes the driving game in Southern Arizona in an instant. Months of baked-in oil and rubber dust rise to the surface during the first 10 minutes of a downpour, creating a slick layer that mimics driving on sheet ice.

When tire tread is too thin, it cannot pump water out of the way fast enough, causing the vehicle to hydroplane—essentially turning a 4,000-pound car into a jet ski with zero steering or braking control.

To ensure your vehicle can handle sudden flash floods on Broadway Boulevard or the I-10, try the 10-second quarter test:

Insert a Washington quarter upside down into your tire's center grooves.

If the top of Washington’s head is fully visible, your tread is under 4/32 of an inch.

While those tires might be legal on dry asphalt, they lack the depth needed to cut through heavy desert rain safely and should be inspected before the next storm hits Pima County.

Stop by for a complete seasonal safety check, or explore customized tire options and pricing upfront through our digital quote page. We are always happy to know our neighbors are driving with absolute confidence.

Don't fall for a dangerous summer driving myth: letting air out of your tires when it gets hot outside.

While summer heat causes tire pressure to rise normally, bleeding air out creates a severe underinflation crisis once they cool down. According to NHTSA, underinflation is the leading cause of highway blowouts. Excessive sidewall flexing creates massive friction and heat build-up, compromising your safety.

Drivers are happy to know that keeping their vehicle safe takes only a few minutes. Always check your tire pressure first thing in the morning when the rubber is completely cold, and inflate to the exact PSI listed on your driver's side door placard—never trust afternoon readings.

If you need a professional structural health check, help tracking down a slow leak, or a quick pressure adjustment, our experienced technicians are ready to help. Protect your family on hot desert roads and check out Jack's Plus Pack today: https://www.jackfurriers.com/Deals/Jacks-Plus-Pack

Tucson's extreme summer temperatures frequently push engine bay environments north of 230 degrees. This intense heat quickly dry-rots your serpentine belt, making it brittle, cracked, and prone to snapping under the heavy load of your air conditioning system. Preventing a breakdown on the highway is a basic safety priority during an Arizona summer.

𝗧𝘂𝗰𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻

For months, Southern Arizona drivers deal with nothing but dry heat and clear skies. But every summer, the weather pattern shifts dramatically, bringing sudden downpours, flash floods, and severe dust storms.

When the monsoons hit, road conditions can change in seconds. Driving safely requires more than just turning on your wipers—it means knowing how to handle sudden loss of traction, near-zero visibility, and flooded intersections.

Before the next storm catches you off guard, make sure your vehicle is prepared to handle the elements. Check your tire tread depth to prevent hydroplaning, inspect your wiper blades for dry rot, and verify that all your exterior lights are fully functional.

Read our complete safety breakdown to ensure your vehicle is ready for the summer storms.
