One of my longtime friends from the FJ Cruiser community invited me out to run the Old Mojave Road, my fifth time on this historic trail. I told myself I’d only go if I could bring a Land Cruiser. Even though my FZJ80 project has been sitting in limbo, I pulled it together and got it trail-ready and I’m really glad I did.

Out there, the 80 just felt right at home. The solid front axle soaked up the whoops and handled the off-camber sections with ease. Honestly, it felt like it was driving itself.

Packing and repacking to go home is half the battle for me.

Son is home for spring break. We always try to fit in a camping trip when possible. My other 4x4s need maintenance before I take them out again. It’s good to be out with family.

Spent a couple nights at King of the Hammers 2026. Enjoyed the beautiful desert weather and watched the races. Did not catch any midnight mayhem at Chocolate Thunder. Chose to eat, drink and be merry by the campfire. I gotta bring my Land Cruiser next year!
