We never want to have to share bad news, but we've learned that Bob & Jennie Moore were involved in a really bad car accident yesterday, north of Omaha. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and feel free to use this image in support of them if you would like. Bob, Jennie, and their family, are in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.

Huge thanks to the Hamilton County Speedway for letting us come out Saturday night! 1st time seeing gamblers night and unique way of paying drivers, throwing it off a bit! We always enjoy making the trip to Webster City and hope to be back sometime next year again!

IMCA Modified VS IMCA Sport Mod
This post isn’t intended to stir controversy or cause problems. It’s simply an observation and discussion sparked by a post out of Arizona this spring about Sport Mods competing against A-Mods in a race. Just looking to hear different perspectives and opinions.

Throughout the year, we’ve been keeping an eye on lap times and car counts at area tracks for both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sport Mod classes. One thing that has stood out is that the IMCA Modified class seems to be declining a little faster, especially over the past 3–4 years, with fewer Sport Mod drivers moving up and some tracks even dropping Modifieds from their weekly programs. Meanwhile, the Sport Mod class has continued to hold its own with just a small decline over the years at most tracks.

I recently saw another track bring up the idea of getting IMCA A-Modified drivers to switch sanctioning bodies and compete in their Modified class, citing the larger differences between the classes. Do I think that’s the answer? Absolutely not. But it did get me thinking about the bigger picture.

Here’s my question, and there is no right or wrong answer: Are the IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Modifieds becoming too similar in performance at most tracks?

Many Sport Mod drivers can compete with A-Mod drivers on any given night. In fact, looking at the statistics below from some of the bigger events at area tracks, there were instances where Sport Mods posted faster lap times than the A-Mods. I honestly believe there are Sport Mod drivers out there who could compete in an A-Mod race and potentially win in a Sport Mod.

As much as I like having two separate classes, with Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks serving as more entry-level divisions and Modifieds and Stock Cars being more experienced classes, we have to look at the bigger picture.

If the lap times are getting closer, and in some cases the lower class is actually running faster, should we consider a different approach?

Would it make sense to:

Option 1: Allow Sport Mods and Modifieds to compete together in the same race, or explore combining the classes in some form?

Option 2: Look at potential rule changes to create more separation between the two classes and preserve their individual identities?

I don’t claim to have the answers. I’m simply looking at the numbers, watching what’s happening at our area tracks, and trying to start a conversation about the future of both classes.

Personally, I would love to see whether it might be possible, with IMCA’s approval, to allow willing Sport Mod drivers to compete alongside the A-Modifieds during a Western Iowa Area Modified Series event. This is purely a hypothetical idea at this point, but it’s something worth discussing.

I’d genuinely like to hear everyone’s thoughts. Drivers, track promoters, and fans — what do you think is best for the future of these two classes? Should they remain separate as they are, should we explore ways to bring them together, or is there another solution we haven’t considered?

Let’s have an honest, constructive discussion. The goal isn’t to take anything away from either class, but to keep both divisions strong and help dirt track racing continue to grow in Western Iowa.

10/20/2026

As we close out the 2026 racing season, we want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the inaugural year of the Western Iowa Area Modified Series possible. From our host tracks and drivers to our fans and marketing partners, we appreciate each and every one of you. We could not have done it without your support!

We recognize the challenges facing the IMCA Modified class, with several tracks across the state reducing or eliminating it from their weekly programs. Our goal is to help rebuild and strengthen the class by offering a quality traveling series similar to the Hawkeye Dirt Tour, focused on Western Iowa for now, while giving drivers something to follow and compete for with increased nightly payouts and a strong points fund.

For our first year, we believe the series was a success, and we hope to see it continue to grow for years to come. We are planning to bring the series back for the 2027 season! Moving forward will depend on securing tracks willing to host one or two events and drivers committed to supporting the series. This series is for YOU, the drivers! Your participation and feedback will help determine how far we can take it.

During our inaugural season, we faced challenges securing marketing partners and took a financial gamble to get the series off the ground. For 2027, our goal is to maintain the current points fund, if not increase it and extend payouts further down the finishing order. Additional sponsors and marketing partners will be essential to making that happen.

We are proud of the points fund offered in our first year:
$2,000 to the series champion
$1,500 for second place
$1,000 for third place

Our events also featured a minimum of $1,500 to win and $150 to start for the IMCA Modifieds. We would like to explore increasing the nightly purse throughout the field, but additional support from businesses and marketing partners will be needed.

Looking Ahead to 2027

We believe this series has the potential to become something special. If you or your business would like to get involved, or if you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please send us a private message. We welcome your feedback as we work to make 2027 even better.

Thank you again to everyone who made our inaugural season possible. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you back at the track in 2027!

Thank you,
