Very first shake down run with the new motor in the boat. This is a 358” sbc in a 1971 Chris Craft XK19 that still has the original Volvo 270 outdrive! (1.61:1) We figure the boat weighs around 2800-2900lbs after the new floor and some other modifications. The prop is a 14 1/2 x 24 mercury chopper prop. Unfortunately the boat is extremely limited via the hull design, not to mention there is no power trim. We’re only turning 5600rpm on this run, with some smooth water and some dialing in we’re hoping to see 6000rpm!

These are the Dart heads I finished porting for a marine application. They started life as a Dart 165 SS head and are now a pretty nice set of 186cc heads. They gained 32cfm on the intake and 67cfm in the exhaust at .500” lift!!! Peak flow is 265cfm on the intake at .600” lift and it carries all the way to .800” without dropping. The exhaust flows 211cfm at .600” (without pipe) and keeps gaining all the way till .800”. They should be perfect for a 358c.i. engine spinning 6000rpm. Here’s some info…

Fresh 5 angle valve job (2.02/1.60)
Ferrea 5000 series valves
Minimum cross-sectional area: 2.04”
Bowl: 90.1%
Throat 89.1%

Tonight I am checking the port alignment of my ported tunnel ram on this 377c.i. sbc. Port alignment is often overlooked and is very important in the process of engine building.
