Mordecai '48 Chev

Mordecai '48 Chev SUBJECT: A 6 cylinder, 3.5 litre, 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Sedan passenger car. NAME: Mordecai

Designed and built in the United States of America but assembled in the General Motors plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Mordecai’s original purchase price in Johannesburg was £568.00. During his life thus far he has covered well over 200 000 miles; towed caravans and trailers; has been used to drag felled trees in Hogsback (and Cape Town as well); towed various friends’ broken-down cars; bee

n stolen and recovered; been used as an ambulance; suffered a broken rear axle, springs and pistons; and has had several minor accidents. And in all this he has only incurred one traffic fine – and that for parking illegally in, of all places, Windhoek! Mordecai’s previous owner and author of the book written on him, Prof. Peter Spargo, used him regularly until 1986, travelling over much of Southern Africa, including Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Namibia. Since 2008, Mordecai has again been driven regularly and brings great joy to his present owner and friends.
