Tips for driving in bad weather conditions:
 Always drive with your headlights on, especially when it’s misty/rainy. This will increase your own visibility as well as other drivers’ visibility.

 Avoid heavy braking, and don’t drive with your cruise control on as this prevents you from having full control over your vehicle.

 Use your windshield wipers for a clear vision on the road.

 Ensure there is a driving distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.

 Beware of puddles/still standing water on the road, as driving through water can cause hydroplaning.

Have you ever driven on the road in heavy rain and all the sudden you slowly start losing control over your vehicle as your wheels start to swerve or slide across the road? Or maybe you have driven through a puddle too quickly and you feel your vehicle swerve to the side.

Read on how hydroplaning works and how to handle your vehicle in such a scenario to avoid an accident.

What causes Hydroplaning?
Hydroplaning occurs when a layer of water builds up between your vehicle’s tyres and the road. Causing your vehicle to lose traction with the road and swerve from side to side, leaving you with almost no control over your vehicle.

What should you do if your vehicle is Hydroplaning, now what?
• Remain Calm. When you start to feel you are slowly losing control over your vehicle, it is best to remain as calm as possible and take a deep breath.
• Do not step on the brakes. Instead, try to elevate your foot off the accelerator to reduce your speed. If you need to make an immediate stop to avoid an accident, brake gently until the vehicle comes to a stop.
• Take control of the vehicle. Firmly hold the steering wheel, when your vehicle starts to swerve in a direction, do not turn your steering wheel in the opposite direction, instead turn the steering wheel to the direction you are sliding/swerving until you start to feel your wheels regain traction.

How to Avoid Hydroplaning?
• Avoid divining through still standing water/puddles.
• Reduce your speed.
• Ensure your tyres are properly inflated.
• Do not use cruise control when driving on wet roads.

We all know that it is that time of the year where everybody starts with their Easter Holiday pre-planning travel plans and ensuring everything is on order before leaving for Holiday.🚘

You and your family’s safety are of the utmost importance and you really do not want that ‘Jolly” Easter mood to take an unexpected turn.

Before you go, have a look at the following checklist to prepare your vehicle for your upcoming holiday.

Pre – Holiday Checklist:
• Make certain the vehicle’s Owner Manual is in the vehicle. (That is top priority)

• Check that all fluid levels are topped up. Next in order to make sure the battery has been tested and checked for any acid leaks or cracks.

• Make certain that your vehicle’s lights, as well as your wiper blades, are operating properly. (Especially in wet weather conditions and driving at night)

• Ensure that the vehicle’s braking system & shock absorbers are in operating condition.

• Regularly check that your tyre pressure is inflated in line with the vehicle’s Owner Manual (Do not forget the spare wheel within the trunk, just in case you forgot)

• Wheel alignment is vital as this ensures that your vehicle is stable on the roads and extend the lifespan of your tyre wear.

It is advisable to always have an emergency kit in your vehicle. The kit consists of the following:

1.Jumper Cables
2.First Aid Kit
3.Spare Tyre
4.Jack
5.Wheel Wrench
6.Reflective Warning Triangle
7.Tool Kit
8.Fire Extinguisher
9.Flashlight (With an extra set of batteries)
10.Tyre Sealer (Optional)
11.Set of gloves
12.Bottled Water

Do you know how to change a Tyre :

Step 1 : Find a solid / level surface. Turn on your hazard lights.

Step 2 : Apply the parking brake and put your vehicle into “Park" If you have a “Manual transmission” put your vehicle into 1st gear.

Step 3 : Place a heavy object in front and behind all tyres. E.g Wheel Wedges / Bricks etc.

Step 4 : Take out the spare tyre and jack.

Step 5 : Place the jack under the vehicle. Make sure the jack is placed firmly on the ground.

Step 6 : Remove the Hubcap and loosen the wheel nuts counterclockwise.
Step 7 : Raise the vehicle with the jack so that the tyre is lifted of the ground.
Step 8 : Remove the tyre, place the spare tyre on the Hub.

Step 9 : Tighten the Nuts by hand until they are all placed. Use a wheel wrench to tighten the nuts in a star pattern, one across from another.

Step 10 : Lower the vehicle gently without applying full weight on the tyre, tighten the nuts so that they are secure.

Step 11 : Fully lower the vehicle and remove the jack.

The average vehicle battery should last about 3 to 5 years.
If you would like to keep it in its best condition, follow these 5 tips:⁣

KEEP IT CLEAN⁣
Corrosion and grime can build up over time so make sure all the battery terminals are clean - use a toothbrush and a corrosion cleaner to scrub the terminals, then wipe clean.⁣

DRIVE OFTEN AND LIMIT SHORT TRIPS⁣
Leaving your vehicle parked for days on end or only making short trips won’t give your car’s battery enough time to fully recharge after starting, thereby reducing its voltage over time.⁣

MINIMIZE POWER USAGE WHEN ENGINE IS OFF⁣
Turning off the radio, aircon, seat warmers, etc. when the engine is off will reduce wear and tear on the battery; also make sure that all these are turned off when starting your car.⁣

AVOID EXTREME TEMPERATURES⁣
Extreme heat weakens the battery while cold leads to higher power usage when starting the engine, so try to avoid both.⁣

TEST IT REGULARLY⁣
It’s recommended that you check your car battery’s voltage about every month to check if it’s still in good condition or if it is in need of a charge

Engine Oil Checklist:
• Is it the right Viscosity?
Refer to your vehicle’s owner manual to see which oil suits your vehicle. • Is it API- Licensed and Certified?
Goldwagen only sells API certified oils, don’t just use any brand you get for a good price. • Do you know which oil you are getting?
Confirm that the correct brand and viscosity before it gets poured into your vehicle. • Did you get an invoice?
Confirm that the oil you asked for matches that on the invoice. • Full oil change?
Make sure that the old oil filter gets replaced with a new one. • When is your next oil change?
Always write down the date and mileage you had your oil changed to keep track.

Your car’s engine requires air for combustion so it can run. To keep your engine running as efficiently as possible, though, the air your engine uses must be plentiful and clean. Engine air filters help with both; they filter out the debris in the air while still maintaining and optimal flow.

So long as the air filter isn’t covered in too much dirt and grime. As your air filter becomes clogged, less air flow into your engine, requiring more gas for combustion. More gas of course equals more money. In addition, if even the tiniest sand grains make their way into your engine, you’re looking at an engine replacement somewhere down the road.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR ENGINE’S AIR FILTER

You’ll likely need more time to read these instructions than what it will take to actually change your air filter.

✅ Pop the hood and look for a plastic housing box. Your owner’s manual will tell you exactly where your air filter is housed.
✅ Open the clips that hold down the cover to the housing box.
✅ Remove the filter in the housing box, paying very close attention to its orientation.
✅ Place the new filter in the housing box in exactly the same orientation as the old one was in.
✅ Close the lid and the clips.
✅ Dispose of the old air filter.

One of the biggest priorities during this pandemic is ensuring that our families stay safe and healthy. When taking precautions to stay safe, it is recommended to have your car’s cabin air-con filter checked on a regular basis. And, of course, make sure to choose the right filter for the utmost protection of your loved ones.
We spend a lot of time in our cars, so it’s important that the air you and your family breathe in while travelling is nothing but fresh and clean air.
Soot, dust, allergens and other impurities may enter car cabins through our air-conditioning system with much more concentration than the air we breathe when going for a walk.

There're no smoke and mirrors when determining what your vehicle's exhaust smoke is signalling to you.

What do the different colours mean? Check them out.👇

Light or Thin White Exhaust Smoke ⚪️
Usually, this means condensation has built up in the exhaust system. The 'smoke' is actually just water vapour, most commonly noticed when starting your car on a cold morning.

Blue/Grey Exhaust Smoke 🔵
This type of smoke usually indicates that you have an oil leak and that the engine is burning the oil.

Black Exhaust Smoke ⚫️
If your exhaust is emitting black smoke it typically indicates that your vehicle is burning too much fuel.

Continual Thick White/Grey Exhaust Smoke ⚫️⚪️
This is likely caused by a leaking head gasket, the coolant would end up being heated in the combustion chambers and blown out the exhaust as the engine starts.
