Back in the eighties, when Dutton Cars ruled the roost, several people had a go at producing hot Phaetons. Ultima boss, Ted Marlow, campaigned (750 Motor Club Kit Car Challenge) a Phaeton with a Swaymar-tuned Ford Essex V6 3-litre, a bloke called Jon Sewell produced a very potent 4x4 example and then there was Bryan (and his dad, Len) Househam, based in Leadenham, Lincolnshire, who stuck a Rover V8 into a Dutton Phaeton...
They actually made three Househam V8s and what a tool it was too. The engine came from a P6, while Len told me once that the chassis featured 75% new or revised metal, while they also re-worked much else on the car.
Despite the work involved the Househams reckoned it was still cheaper than producing their own car from scratch...the last Househam V8 was built in 1985...
