50th FINKE Anniversary

507th Outright

7:39:28 - WR450F 2026

It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of this event, a celebration of 50 years of outback racing 🏜️🏁
My thoughts are with family and friends of the rider who didn’t make it 🕊️ and I wish a sp*edy recovery to the riders healing up ❤️‍🩹

It was an absolutely wild lead up getting a bike sorted and massive thanks to Pitmans for making the 450 happen and to everyone who helped me get it race ready.
I always said it would be wild with so many bikes and I just wanted to get back but I had 1 goal to ride faster on the 450. I showed some strong pace pre-running once I was able to alleviate some of my back pain. The race track formed up absolutely brutal a combination of the weather in the lead up, and the extra bikes and buggies.
Race day 1 I was so excited, the dust was crazy and slowed some sections down and then I had a big crash before Finke but made it in I think 7 min slower, I’d managed to push through the pain. I hoped the sleep and painkillers would help and I’d be able to send it back. Unfortunately the air was still and dust hung for most of the return trip, with some bonus dust for me getting passed by riders due to slowing down, I had to sit a lot due to the back pain and struggled with the throttle due to wrist pain. I was stoked to get some clean air and surprised myself getting my wheel up in the whoops. After the very sad news, I played it safe I was so glad to see my crew at the finish and just glad to be home alive, though no PB for me this year. 3 spikes from 3 Finkes and a 3rd year of raising funds for cancer research Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Part 1️⃣ of 3️⃣ 🏜️❤️🔥
Most of you know about Ben putting and ad up for a wife last Finke, a year ago we started messaging and just over 11 months ago we met… we’ve travelled so far to be together (4000km for our first date, them multiple flights and I’ve driven up to qld twice and the nt twice and he’s joined me as much as he could!) and meet our own commitments and a lot of long distance so when Ben arrived in Alice (after what is hopefully the end of long distance and the final 2 months apart) he suggested we re-create the ad with me in it! Well I wanted to take it further going out to a nice spot and taking both bikes, we’d had a huge day and it was an effort but as he does when he knows it’s important to me, he said “yes” to another one of my crazy ideas. We got the shot with the tripod just before sunset and the hiked up a small hill to enjoy the view and those stunning evening colours. Ben made sure we walked down before it was totally dark (always the thoughtful one). We microwaved meals if prepped (thanks to his well equipped camper) and enjoyed the fire and outback starry sky, where I feel most relaxed, my soul country 🧡
He then wanted to share the photo on the Finke page and a massive thank you for all the lovely messages and comments! We are both happy and very much in love 🥰 he doesn’t race which I really don’t mind as I’ve been so very well looked after! He rides an AJP and we are looking forward to exploring more later in the year. For now, we are in the Daintree FNQ finishing building his house and once it’s done we will move to SA together!

This is what my first Finke fuel stop looked like! Legends. Massive thanks to Ted Freckle Racing crew guys and girls. I stopped a bit longer than I needed to stretch my back but it helped me keep going. Thanks Colin Jenke for riding out for day 1 and for the labelled fast fill Jerry’s. Thanks MEG HOOPER (Pitchford) top hype girl!! 🙏 so many people support with Finke and so grateful to you all. Jeremy Nankivell for running the show and for arranging. Thanks to Pauline and Wayne for filling up the Jerrys those last couple crazy prep days 🙏

Day 2 🏜️ PART 2 of 2: 🏁 Finke ➡️ Alice
That middle of the race was really tough, I wondered how I would get to the finish but tried to stay strong mentally and I am so incredibly grateful for the spectators and cheering fans who got me through! When I pulled into the 74km fuel stop with Ted Freckle racing, I took a break for around 5min, some nurofen, a wrist massage and a p*e to try and ease the lower pack pain.
Thankfully that was enough to get me through to deep well and then at 50km I finally got clean air where I got to my favourite section of the track between there and the off road club and I had 40km I could actually see where I was going and was very glad to tick off those bonnets at a much better pace. Till I slowed to check on a fallen rider on a dune, he was ok but I lost too much momentum and also ended up in the sand. My bike has never ever felt so heavy to pick up, I got it up the 2nd time. And as I did another rider slowed to check on me and also fell off but thankfully none of us were hurt. I was doing ok but the last 10km I caught another rider and between the dust and the evening shadows had to back off as I just couldn’t see the holes. So glad to come into the stadium and finish with my partner Ben, Mum and crew all waiting! Just grateful to be safe and get my spike.
I take my hat off to all the other competitors who crash and get back up as I’m lucky this is the first Finke I have crashed and boy was it tough! Congratulations to everyone who finished in those brutal dusty conditions and sending healing vibes to those who need it ❤️‍🩹

Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters!

Day 2 🏜️ PART 1 of 2: 🏁 Finke ➡️ Alice
Edit 📸 credit thank you so much to Megan Kelly
This is a really hard one to write, thank you everyone for the lovely messages and I’ll get back to you soon. Waiting around at Finke before the race I was checking in on the girls and keeping things positive after the tragic news of the passing of a fellow competitor RIP Matthew 🕊️and then we lined up to riders brief to receive more shocking news. Talk among competitors was very much we just wanted to get home and a lot were planning to just trail ride it. There were tears as we vowed to see each other late that afternoon safe at the end. I knew this was not one to race back and set off, but by the first corner I had to back off due to the dust. In the first whoops by lower back was again in pain and I hope it would settle in and warm up but it didn’t the whole way back. I was very happy to get some clean air about 20km in and hoped that was the worst of the dust. Well I had a good run for 10km and back in dust again… for the next 140km 🫣 my wrist held up pretty well thanks to Ben’s strapping at the start but that stopped about 50km into the race and boy was I glad to get to the 155km fuel stop. The Morton bros fuel stop was great because I was so sore I couldn’t hit the kill switch on my bike and fell off dropping it. Thankfully the minute off the bike helped and I got into a bit of a rhythm for 20km or so, dusty but familiar whoops made it ok and then the pain all set back in I couldn’t stand for long and had to slow down and sit as much as possible, and I was just trying to hang on, really had to back off sp*ed and was getting passed so much in the dust multiple times i couldn’t see where the track went and got passed again. - Part 2 in the next reel
