We're about six weeks away from Queensland schools finishing for the summer holidays. ☀️🚗🚐

Sounds like plenty of time.

Until you add Christmas shopping, end-of-year events, school activities, work deadlines, packing… and somebody remembers the caravan hasn't been touched since the last trip. 😆

If the family car, caravan, camper or trailer needs attention before your Christmas travels, getting organised now can make December a whole lot easier.

Caravan attached. Job done?

There's a little more going on back there. 🚐

The towbar, coupling and safety chains all form part of the connection between your vehicle and trailer, and the towing equipment needs to be appropriate for the load it's carrying.

It's one of those parts of towing where guessing isn't a great strategy.

Modern cars can have more modes than the average washing machine. 😆

Tow modes, terrain settings, drive modes and other vehicle-specific systems can change how different parts of a vehicle operate.

The important bit is that they're not identical from one vehicle to another.

If you've bought a different vehicle and you're planning to tow with it, get familiar with the owner's manual and understand the systems fitted to YOUR vehicle rather than assuming they all work the same way.

Found a second-hand 4WD that looks perfect for future adventures? 🚙

A shiny exterior and tidy interior can tell you some things.

They can't tell you everything.

A Vehicle Condition Report can give you a clearer picture of the condition of a vehicle you're considering before it becomes the car you're relying on for work, family life and holidays.

Southeast Auto Mechanical offers Vehicle Condition Reports.

A chair.

An esky.

The bikes.

Food.

Water.

Another chair because apparently four people need six chairs. 😂

When you're packing a caravan, all those “little extras” add up. Overall weight and how that weight is distributed both matter when you're towing.

Packing safely is about more than whether you can physically shut the door. 🚐

A caravan can spend months sitting quietly beside the house.

Unfortunately, “quietly” doesn't necessarily mean “nothing to check”. 🚐

Wheel bearings, suspension and braking components are among the areas that deserve attention when a trailer or caravan has been sitting unused for an extended period.

Getting ready for summer isn't just about washing it, stocking the fridge and finding the camping chairs.

16/10/2026

Christmas has a habit of sneaking up on us. 🎄🚗

If your car is going to be due for a service around the holiday period, getting ahead of it now can mean one less job competing with Christmas shopping, school finishing, parties, work and packing the car.

A little October organisation can make December considerably easier.

Queensland weather has a talent for going from blue sky to “WHERE DID THAT RAIN COME FROM?” rather quickly. 🌧️😆

That's not the ideal moment to discover your wiper blades smear more water across the windscreen than they remove.

Streaking, skipping, shuddering or areas that aren't being cleared properly can all affect visibility.

Wipers aren't exciting, but when a summer storm arrives, you'll be very glad they're doing their job.
