Polestar 2 BECM recovery Infineon TC298 - 400V battery + Bench test
The battery controller inside the high voltage battery is known to wipe it's memory following a crash, rendering most used parts useless. They can be recovered with a flash programmer. Unfortunately most mainstream tools don't support these processors.

Toyota Hiace 1KD - no ECU communication, no engine light. Not starting.
Caused by a short circuit on the 5V rail - often caused by a shorted fuel pressure sensor . Today, it was caused by mixed up terminal blocks. Unfortunately we tested everything else before landing on this!

This particular fault with Toyotas is a design flaw in the ECU architecture , common with most generation 1 denso. Typically, ecus are expected to retain communication and provide a 5V short circuit fault code on diagnostics.

Canbus issues on a W205 Mercedes causing the instrument panel to go nuts. Reverse camera at fault!

Chasing an intermittent power steering issue on a Hyundai Accent. Sometimes when turning a tight corner, communication to the power steering and ABS modules would dropout, resulting in tough steering and multiple warning lights.
Canbus and power/earths tested fine at idle, and module voltage showed fine in the scan tool during driving - until communication was lost of course.
It wasn't until we pulled the strip fuse out of the fuse box (which is mostly hidden) that we saw this monstrosity - wire wrapped around the terminals acting as a fuse. Both a fire hazard and crash waiting to happen.
We quickly remedied this by replacing it with a correctly rated fuse filament (VW strip fuse type)
