Knowing your value.
I have given a lot to the thought of why I started the engine shop recently.
I did it to better my life and that of my family. I have come to the conclusion that just taking people's words for face value is an alarmingly inaccurate method of judging both my own value and my family's, let alone theirs. People will and do lie and cheat to advance their own position, and in some case even threaten others.
As part of this value, and after a few rather dodgy warranty claims over the years of operation, and a lot of people that "know how it should be done", I have formalised the process of how I assess these claims. I have added this to the website.
A 12-month warranty is a 12-month warranty. If the spanking new engine sits on the floor for 8 months, that's 8 months of warranty gone.
If they put it in their pride and joy and drive it twice in those 12 months, likewise.
If they install a gearbox wrong and wear the thrust washers out in 5 minutes, the warranty goes into the recycling along with the oil and bearings - and they'll be charged for the teardown and inspection.
