For today’s ‘Throwback Thursday’ we look at this week’s Kevin Robinson Free-For-All, as it honours one of the Legends in harness racing.
Our fine pictures show Kevin Robinson in action at Harold Park on 24 October 1980 aboard the champion Victorian, Gammalite.
Kevin Robinson won two Harold Park Cups on Gammalite for Victorian trainer, Leo O’Connor.
Kevin had a distinguished career in harness Racing.
He later turned to training gallopers, again with great success.
Winning the 1968 Inter Dominion Grand Final in Auckland on First Lee, Robinson went on to train some talented performers.
He won Derbies with Matong Way and Under A Cloud, while the smart Viking Water finished third in a Miracle Mile.
One of all-time stars was Frosty Imp, who won 22 races at Harold Park.
Winning the Harold Park Premierships in 1975/76, Robinson had great success with trotter Dulacca Road, a dual Trotters Derby winner.
Another of his stars was the ultra-consistent Bill’s Student, while he also drove star Koala King on a few occasions.
Kevin Robinson was a great man and several members of his large family, including sons Terry and Chris, have tasted great success in harness racing and the gallopers.
The 2026 edition of the $30,000 Club Menangle Kevin Robinson Free-For-All (Listed classic) is Race 6, to be run at 9:14pm.
This Saturday night, we honour a ‘Legend’ and a Club Legend at Club Menangle.
A proud moment in our rich harness racing’s history.
