The 5-second check before you send a DPF off for cleaning.

Bryce pulled this muffler off a Western Star truck. There are four DPF compartments inside, and once it’s apart you can look at both sides of the filter.

The inlet side is always going to be black. The outlet side should be clean. If the outlet looks as dirty as the inlet, the soot’s going straight through and the DPF is damaged. A clean won’t fix that one.
