LSA Rebuild: The Danger of High-Volume Oil Pumps.

​We’ve just wrapped up a rebuild on this Beautiful LSA-powered HG, and the cause of the original failure is a lesson every LS swapper needs to hear as this is becoming a very common problem.

​The car came to us with a Holley Rear sump and a high-volume oil pump. While that sounds like "more is better," it’s actually a recipe for disaster in a small capacity sump. These pumps (found in the LSA, and L77 L76 engines) move so much oil that they can literally empty a small sump into the top of the engine before it has a chance to drain back.

​The result? The engine runs dry, and the bearings are destroyed.

​The IMS Rule of Thumb:

✅ If you’re running a high-volume pump, you must use a larger capacity sump 8Ltr + to ensure a constant oil supply.

✅ If your chassiswon't allow for a big sump, you must swap back to a standard-sized oil pump and in this case, that can be a problem as the LSA's have a piston oil squirter

​It’s all about the combination. Don’t risk your engine by over-speccing one part without considering the rest of the system.

LS2 Power: FAST 102mm vs. Factory LS2 Manifold 📈⚔️

​We’ve just completed the "Ultimate Street Package" on this LS2, and we decided to do some back-to-back testing while it was on the dyno. 🛠️

​We tested the FAST 102mm Intake Manifold against the standard GM LS2 manifold. The result? The FAST manifold found an extra 10 kW and 20 Nm of torque alone! That is a massive gain from a single bolt-on part on top of an already strong build. 🤯

​The Combo:

✅ BTR Stage 1 V2 Camshaft
✅ Blackwell Race Engines CNC Cylinder Heads
✅ FAST 102mm Intake Manifold

​This setup is the definition of minimal compromise. It maintains good drivability for the street but packs a serious punch when you lean on it. 🏎️💨
