Two months to the start of the Sydney Hobart, and the boats heading south are already being prepared. Offshore racing asks more of a rig, a boat's systems and her safety gear than any harbour season, and the preparation starts well before the start gun. Send us a message if yours is going.

Standing rigging has a working life. It rarely fails in the middle of a wire; it goes at the fittings. For a boat sailed coastally, the working guide is an inspection every year and an assessment for replacement at around ten to twelve years, sooner if she's raced hard or kept on an exposed mooring, and some insurers and race categories set their own limits. Comment RIG if you're not sure how old yours is, and we'll look and tell you honestly.

Summer is hard on a finish. Teak greys by autumn, stainless tea-stains where salt is left to sit, and clear vinyl hazes when it's wiped dry over salt. None of it is damage yet, and all of it is easier kept ahead of than brought back: a gentle wash with the grain beats a hard scrub once a year. Detailing is protection, not presentation. Comment DETAIL and we'll keep yours ahead of the season.

What's below the waterline decides how a boat sails and how long she lasts. Antifoul, keel and rudder, running gear and seacocks are out of sight most of the year, which is why they get a proper look whenever a boat comes out. Send us a message if yours is due.

On a power boat, summer is a systems test. Cooling works hardest in warm water, batteries get drawn down at anchor, and air-conditioning, generators and bilge pumps tend to go unchecked until the first hot weekend. Each is a small job at the berth and a lost day on the water. A pre-summer check looks at them together, so one problem doesn't hide behind another. Comment SYSTEMS and we'll look yours over.

Planned maintenance beats emergency repairs. Most breakdowns give a warning, a weeping fitting, a pump running longer than it should, a stiff seacock, and a regular schedule is what notices it, because the same eyes see the same boat and a change stands out. The seasons set the rhythm: winter for bigger jobs, spring for commissioning, summer for keeping her running. Every visit goes on the record. Comment SCHEDULE and we'll set one up for yours.

Done during the week, so the weekend is yours. With managed care, the cleaning, the checks and the small jobs happen on a weekday, alongside the boat where she's kept, and she's ready when you arrive. We hold the schedule through the season, so all you need to bring is the day. Send us a message and we'll set one up.

A halyard wears in one place. Rope wears where it turns: over the masthead sheave, in the jaws of a clutch, around a winch drum. A cover gone fuzzy, a cover sliding over the core, or a halyard that won't hold its tension are the signs to act on, and a summer of sun makes them come sooner. New lines are specified by the job they do, not matched to the old one, and finished with splices rather than knots. Comment LINES and we'll check yours.

Summer is when managed care earns its keep. The more a boat is used, the easier small problems are to miss between one weekend and the next. Managed care means one team holds the whole picture, what was checked, what's due, what's booked, so you arrive to a boat that's clean and working, and anything that needed doing was done during the week. Every visit is recorded against the boat. Comment CARE and we'll set up a schedule for the season.

The first long weekend of the season is when a boat that sat through winter gets used properly, and it's when small things show: a battery that won't hold its charge, a bilge pump that doesn't switch on, an intake half-blocked with growth. A few minutes of checks at the berth is the easy version. If anything on board isn't behaving, send us a message and we'll help you sort it.
