From Frankfurt to Brisbane, the future of automotive refinishing is taking shape.

As guests of Surventis, formerly BASF Coatings, Chris and Ange travelled to Automechanika Frankfurt and the Surventis facility in Münster to explore technology that could transform the way vehicles are refinished at DAS.

At the centre of it all: SATA jetstream robotic spray-booth automation, paired with Glasurit’s Alfa automatic paint-mixing system and new ImagePLUS LightAssist colour-matching technology.

Together, they offer a connected paint process built for exceptional accuracy, consistency and efficiency (with less waste!) Bringing this technology to Brisbane could place DAS among the first smash repair facilities in Australia to do so.

And the best part? Glasurit has been part of our story since Noel established Toowong Milton Body Repairs nearly 50 years ago.

The brand that helped build our past may now help us create the paint shop of the future.

Nearly 50 years of experience. The next generation of technology. Watch this space. 👀

We’re proud to share that Drive Accident Solutions has been named as a finalist in the 2026 iBodyshop Awards under the category of Best Large Shop.

This recognition means a lot to our team. Collision repair is a demanding industry, and modern repairs continue to become more technical, more involved, and more process-driven each year.

Being recognised in this category reflects the work happening across the entire business. From estimating and parts, through to panel, paint, mechanical, detailing, administration and production management.

A huge thank you to our team for the effort they put in every day, and to our customers, suppliers and industry partners who continue to support us.

We’re proud to be named among the finalists and look forward to the awards.

The most difficult colours to refinish are the ones that look simple at first.

Three-layer pearl whites are a good example. From a distance, the colour may just look white. Up close, there is much more happening beneath the surface.

These finishes are usually built in stages: a base colour, a pearl layer, and then a clear coat. The base gives the colour its foundation. The pearl layer adds depth, brightness and the subtle change you see as light moves across the panel. The clear coat then protects the finish and gives the paint its gloss.

That is why matching a pearl white finish takes more than just using the paint code. The way the material is mixed, applied, layered and checked can all affect how the final colour appears.

The aim is not just to make one panel look good on its own. It needs to sit naturally beside the surrounding panels, so the finish looks consistent across the vehicle.

Modern paintwork is a mix of process, precision and a careful eye for detail.

A stressful situation is never planned… especially when it comes to hail damage.

That’s where we step in.

From the moment you walk through our doors, our goal is simple
make the process easy, clear, and take the pressure off.

A huge thank you to Bern-Mari for the kind words.
From the repairs, to the clean, to the coffee… it all matters.

We’re grateful for every review, but more importantly, we’re proud we could turn a stressful situation into a smooth experience.

That’s what Drive is about.

The final layer. The one that brings it all together.

As much as the finished shine looks good, it’s so much more than that.

Clear coat protects the paint, adds durability, and ensures a consistent, factory-quality finish.

This is where everything is sealed, refined, and finished properly.

At Drive Accident Solutions, this step is never rushed.

Because quality isn’t just how it looks when it leaves
It’s how it’s done every step of the way.

A closer look at removing the quarter panel on a Tesla Model Y.

Quarter panels are welded on, while other panels like guards, doors and tailgates are usually bolted on. That means removing a quarter panel normally involves a much bigger process. This video gives you a behind the scenes look at the removal of a quarter panel and what’s involved in the process.
