Still turning clickers and hoping for the best?
Today I’m filming a simple workshop demo showing how suspension clickers actually work.
I’ll use a shock shaft and larger parts so it’s easier to see on camera, but the principle is the same: clickers don’t magically “fix” suspension — they control oil flow through a small adjustment range.
That means if your bike is:
Harsh. Kicking. Diving. Deflecting. Bottoming. Lacking traction.
…the problem may not be solved by winding adjusters in circles.
It may need proper diagnosis.
At Mountain Race Shop, we look at the rider, bike, spring rate, service condition, valving and terrain before recommending the fix.
Stop guessing. Get the suspension diagnosed properly.

Last job for the week, customer notes say just purchased the bike, forks are super soft.

Yep I can see that

Turns out that these showas don't need yet another re valve just to be done properly

The face shims jamed up on the collett were holding the float wide open so just free flowing then whack.

Nothing then all is the way to put it.

We will close off bookings mid week, swapping one workshop for another in France from 13 July until 1 Sept so get in early and book them in for then, that way you can stop guessing

Oh man. Back story.

This set of showa's have been apart before, springs / re valved, I suspect these are the factory NOS seals fitted

There is a tendency for the rebound assembly nut to freeze onto the damper rod from the factory but I don't think that's what's happening here

When the rebound assembly freezes on and you try and undo it all the loc nut strips the thread on the damping rod and then daddy takes the T bird away it's all no fun fun fun

So after getting it apart.

Someone has held the damping rod with a set of vice grips, the thread on the damping rod is stripped and the adjuster nut was Loctite on.

The holy grail of morons at work.

Unfortunately this is the standard of some shops, rebound shims glued together with koctite.

Our goal is simple — service and set up bikes properly, not just throw oil and seals at them.
Forks, shocks, revalves, springs and race setup available.
Canberra pick-up and return available for booked jobs.

What on earth is going on here you ask?

Well apart from looking like the roundabout in lonsdales st this is what happens to compression damping when you make a rebound clicker adjustment on the crf250r

Happens on most to be honest it's just really noticeable on this showa

So something to keep in mind next time you get the screwdriver out
