Why did we choose 35% tint for this Kia PV5 instead of going darker?

Because the darkest option isn’t always the best option.

For this brand-new PV5, the goal was maximum performance while keeping everything legal and maintaining great night time visibility.

The right shade should suit how you actually use the vehicle.

Going darker can give you more privacy and a different appearance, but it also reduces the amount of visible light coming through the glass — particularly noticeable when driving at night.

If your priority is maximum heat protection without unnecessarily darkening the glass, a premium ceramic film in a lighter shade can be an excellent choice.

Not all dark window tint keeps your car cooler 👀

That’s one of the biggest misconceptions we see in window tinting.

A film can look extremely dark and still offer relatively poor heat rejection. Darkness and heat rejection are not the same thing.

This BMW X3 was tinted in the darkest legal combination using XPEL PRIME XR Black Ceramic — but the real reason we recommend ceramic film goes well beyond appearance.

Here’s what’s actually worth looking at when choosing tint:

☀️ UV protection – XR Black blocks 99.9% of harmful UV rays, helping protect occupants as well as the vehicle’s interior.

🔥 Infrared heat rejection – XR Black rejects up to 78% of infrared heat, helping reduce the heat you feel coming through the glass.

🕶️ VLT (Visible Light Transmission) – This determines how light or dark the tint is. A lower VLT means darker glass, but a lower VLT does not automatically mean better heat rejection.

🚘 Factory privacy glass isn’t the same as ceramic tint – Many SUVs already have dark rear privacy glass from factory. It gives you privacy, but if heat and UV protection are the priority, adding a quality ceramic film over it can provide significantly more protection.

💡 Our advice?

Don’t choose your tint based purely on how dark it looks or which shop has the cheapest price.

Ask what film is actually being installed, what heat rejection it provides, what warranty backs it, and who will be installing it.
