🎞️ Footage That Preserves History
Testing UAZ off-road vehicles is not just a trial of the machinery’s durability; it is also the story of the people who created these vehicles.
The factory museum’s archives contain unique film footage of these tests, captured by Lev Adrianovich Startsev. He rose through the ranks from design engineer to Chief Designer at UAZ—a position he held from 1973 to 1984. For his contributions to the development of the city, Lev Adrianovich was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Ulyanovsk."
The footage shows vehicles in extreme conditions, where their capabilities were put to the test before they entered mass production. Behind every such sequence lies the hard work of engineers, test drivers, and designers.
The museum also houses the personal movie camera that Startsev used to film this footage—an object that has now become a part of the factory’s own history.
