Energy experts warn oil prices could surge much higher if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and global reserves continue to shrink.

With Brent crude already nearing US$100 per barrel, executives from ExxonMobil and Chevron say tightening inventories and ongoing disruptions in the Middle East could push prices to between US$150 and US$160 per barrel in the coming weeks. Analysts point to the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical route for global oil shipments — and dwindling stockpiles as key factors driving concerns over a potential energy crunch this summer.

Pierre Poilievre is blaming Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government for Canada’s economic struggles, repeatedly pointing to the country’s recession during a fiery media scrum.

Speaking outside a cabinet meeting, the Conservative leader argued that Canada is the only G7 nation currently in a recession despite facing the same global challenges and U.S. trade pressures as other countries. Poilievre said nations like the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Mexico have avoided recession, insisting Canada’s economic downturn is the result of Liberal policies rather than U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade actions.

A three-year-old child is fighting for their life after a powerful storm sent an inflatable play structure airborne during a community event in Montreal.

Emergency crews responded to Ouellette Park in LaSalle on Sunday after strong winds lifted a bouncy castle into the air, injuring multiple people. Eleven people were assessed at the scene and six were taken to hospital, including two children. One three-year-old remains in critical condition. Witnesses described tables, chairs and the inflatable structure being swept up by sudden severe winds before bystanders rushed to help the children trapped inside.

Many Toronto soccer fans are being priced out of attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite matches being played in their own city.

With Canada’s opening World Cup match still showing tickets priced above $3,000, some local fans say the tournament has become inaccessible for ordinary supporters. Experts note that soaring ticket costs, expensive hotels, and higher travel expenses are making the event difficult to justify for many Canadians. As a result, some lifelong soccer fans say they'll be watching from afar rather than inside the stadium when the world's biggest tournament arrives.

Canadians are seeing a little bit of everything on the first day of June, from snow and frost to heat and heavy rain.

Environment Canada has issued a mix of weather alerts across the country, with snow expected around St. John’s, N.L., frost advisories in parts of Nova Scotia, and heat warnings in Manitoba where temperatures could approach 30 C. Heavy rainfall is the biggest concern across Western Canada, with Alberta, Saskatchewan, and southeastern British Columbia forecast to receive up to 100 millimetres of rain in some areas, raising the risk of flooding, washouts, and hazardous travel conditions.

Victor Wembanyama delivered a superstar performance to keep San Antonio’s season alive and force a decisive Game 7.

After a frustrating Game 5 loss, Wembanyama responded with leadership and intensity, helping the Spurs dominate the Thunder 118-91 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Teammates said the young star challenged the group before tipoff, emphasizing that there was no tomorrow if they didn't leave everything on the court. The victory sends the series back to Oklahoma City for a winner-take-all Game 7, with San Antonio’s playoff hopes now resting on the shoulders of its franchise cornerstone.
