A Rare Visitor at Adair Auto Repair!

Most people have never seen one of these.

This 1953 Sunbeam Alpine is a rare British sports car built by the Sunbeam Motor Car Company. The Alpine name came from the car’s success in Europe’s famous Alpine Rally, and fewer than 1,600 of these early models were ever produced.

Working on classic vehicles like this is always a privilege. They may be simple by today’s standards, but they require a unique understanding of vintage engineering and plenty of attention to detail.

🏆 Proud to participate in the 2026 Auto Value Technician of the Year Competition!

We are proud to share that Adair Auto Repair owner, Seumas Leghorn, was recently selected as one of only three Canadian technicians invited to Detroit to participate in the 2026 Auto Value Technician of the Year event.

The Technician of the Year program was created to recognize and celebrate top performing automotive technicians from across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Being selected as a finalist was an incredible honour and a meaningful recognition of Seumas’s more than 20 years of experience, ongoing commitment to training, technical knowledge, and dedication to the automotive repair industry.

The competition included hands on technical testing at the Shop Gurus Garage, along with a written ASE certification examination designed to challenge the knowledge and diagnostic abilities of some of the industry’s leading technicians.

Auto Value also provided an unforgettable Detroit experience, including:

🔧 Major Duramax Surgery🔧

Not every repair can be done with the hood open. This Chevrolet Duramax came into our shop requiring head gasket replacement, which is one of the most involved repairs on these trucks.

To properly access the engine, the entire cab was lifted off the frame, giving our technician the room needed to perform the repair correctly and safely. Once disassembled, we installed upgraded ARP head studs, a popular improvement for Duramax engines. Unlike the factory head bolts, ARP studs provide greater clamping force and help improve long-term durability, especially on trucks that tow heavy loads or have performance modifications.

Head gasket failures on diesel engines can be caused by overheating, age, increased cylinder pressures, or simply years of hard work. Common warning signs include:
✔️ Unexplained coolant loss
✔️ Cooling system overpressure
✔️ White exhaust smoke
✔️ Engine overheating
✔️ Coolant contamination

Here’s a behind the scenes look at a major HVAC repair we recently completed at Adair Auto Repair. On this Jeep Grand Cherokee, the entire dashboard had to be removed to access the heater & A/C control box hidden deep inside the dash.

Many Jeep Grand Cherokees are known for a common factory design issue where the sealant used inside the HVAC box softens and deteriorates over time from heat exposure. When this happens, the blend doors and air flaps inside the system can stick or fail to move properly.

This can cause symptoms such as:
✔️ No cold air from the A/C
✔️ Heat stuck on one side
