Heads up, Cochrane drivers! 🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️

This coming Sunday, July 26, Cochrane will be hosting the IRONMAN 70.3 Calgary triathlon! While it is exciting to welcome over 1,000 athletes to town, it also means significant road closures and traffic delays that you should plan around.

Here is what you need to know to navigate town smoothly on race day:

🛑 Road Closures (9:00 AM to 3:30 PM):
- Glenbow Drive and Glenpatrick Drive will have temporary closures.

⚠️ Expected Delays & Slower Access:
- Expect extra traffic, cyclists on the road, and slower access in and out of Highway 22, the Sunset Ridge entrance, and RancheHouse Road.

RCMP and event personnel will be directing traffic on site to keep everyone safe.

Whether you are taking your driver's test or just running weekend errands, defensive driving starts with planning ahead! Give yourself plenty of extra travel time, watch closely for cyclists and pedestrians, and stay patient behind the wheel.

Whether you are trying to park along a busy historic street downtown or setting up for your upcoming Class 5 road test, parallel parking can feel intimidating. However, once you learn the proper reference points and understand the steering angles, it becomes pure muscle memory.

July is prime time for road trips, and living so close to the mountains means many of our local drivers are heading out on beautiful, winding Alberta highways. 🏔️🚙

Driving through the foothills or taking a trip down the Cowboy Trail requires a specific set of skills. From managing steep grades and sharp curves to sharing the road safely with slow-moving farm equipment, rural and mountain driving is very different from city commuting.

Final exams and diploma exams are officially underway for our local high school students! 📚✏️

While the immediate focus is on finishing the academic year strong, graduation is just around the corner. As high school routines wrap up, many Cochrane grads are preparing for their next big step,whether that means heading off to university, starting a summer job, or planning road trips with friends.

There is no better way to celebrate finishing exams and hitting this major milestone than giving them the skills to navigate the roads safely on their own.

Throw in a sudden summer downpour, pooling water, and spray from transport trucks, and having total confidence at high speeds becomes essential.
