⚡🚨 EVs AREN’T READY FOR EVERY RURAL VANCOUVER ISLAND DRIVER.

I sell EVs.

And I’m telling you this.

If you live rurally on Vancouver Island, your vehicle needs can be VERY different from someone living in Victoria or Nanaimo.

Long distances.

Limited charging options.

Cold weather.

Logging roads.

Remote camping.

Fewer backup options if something goes wrong.

And sometimes you simply don’t have convenient access to home charging.

That doesn’t mean EVs are bad.

It means the right vehicle depends on your lifestyle.

For some Island drivers, an EV is absolutely fantastic.

For others, a gas or hybrid vehicle still makes far more sense.

🚗 Don’t buy a vehicle because it’s trendy.

Buy the vehicle that fits YOUR life.

🌧️❄️ BEST WINTER VEHICLES FOR VANCOUVER ISLAND?

We might not get Alberta-style winters…

But Vancouver Island has its own challenges:

🌧️ Heavy rain
🌫️ Fog
🌲 Back roads
❄️ Snow in the higher elevations
🧊 Black ice
⛰️ Mountain passes

Here are some vehicles I’d consider if you want something confident in Island winter conditions.

⚡ EV CHARGING IS NOT THE SALES PITCH.

If you’re considering an EV, the conversation shouldn’t start with:

“Where can I charge it?”

It should start with:

“Does an EV actually make sense for YOUR life?”

How far do you drive?

Can you charge at home?

What’s your electricity situation?

How often do you road trip?

What range do you actually need?

EVs can be incredible vehicles — but the right vehicle depends on the person.

🚨 EVER WONDER WHY DEALERS QUOTE WEEKLY PAYMENTS?

Because $199/week sounds a LOT better than the total amount you’re financing.

That’s why you need to understand the entire deal.

A $199 weekly payment can come with a very different total cost depending on:

• Interest rate
• Loan term
• Down payment
• Trade equity
• Amount financed

I’m not saying weekly payments are bad.

I’m saying you need to know what they actually mean.

🌲 Why haven’t I moved to the mainland?

People ask me sometimes… “Phil, why don’t you move to Vancouver? More money, more opportunity, more going on!”

But I moved here from a big city in the UK, and honestly? I wouldn’t trade Vancouver Island for it. 🇬🇧➡️🇨🇦

I love the slower pace. The mountain views, the trees, the hidden local gems, and the fact that people still wave you in when you’re merging on the highway. 😂

No skyscrapers outside my window. No sitting in Vancouver traffic for hours. Just fresh air, beautiful scenery, and a community that feels like home.

Big cities are great to visit… but Vancouver Island is home. 🌊🌲

Who else wouldn’t trade Island life for anything? 👇

🛻 WHAT RAM 1500 CAN YOU GET AROUND $500/WEEK?

If you’re shopping for a full-size truck on Vancouver Island, the payment is only one part of the equation.

Let’s look at:

💰 Purchase price
📈 Interest rate
📅 Loan term
⛽ Fuel
🔧 Maintenance
🛡️ Insurance
📉 Depreciation

Because the cheapest weekly payment doesn’t necessarily mean the cheapest truck to own.

If you’ve got kids, dogs, sports equipment, groceries and everything else…

You need SPACE.

Here are some of my favourite family SUVs around the $700/week range.

But don’t just look at the payment.

Look at the TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP.

Because the goal isn’t to have the biggest SUV you can afford.

It’s to have the right SUV for your family.

❄️🚗 BEST WINTER VEHICLES ON VANCOUVER ISLAND?

Vancouver Island winter driving is different.

You might leave Victoria in the rain…

Hit the Malahat…

And suddenly you’re dealing with snow, ice, fog and freezing temperatures. 🌧️❄️

If I was shopping for a winter vehicle on VI, I’d be looking at:

🚙 Subaru Outback
🚙 Subaru Forester
🚙 Subaru Crosstrek
🚙 Toyota RAV4
🚙 Honda CR-V
🚙 Mazda CX-5
🚙 Nissan Rogue
🚙 Nissan Pathfinder

But here’s the BIGGEST thing:

AWD DOES NOT REPLACE WINTER TIRES.

AWD helps you get moving.

Your tires help you stop and turn.

If you’re regularly driving the Malahat, North Island, Sutton Pass, or heading into the mountains, I’d prioritize the right tires just as much as the vehicle itself.
