🐢Turtle Nesting Season is here!

Last night we admitted a deceased female Midland Painted Turtle that unfortunately lost her life to a collision with a car. Fortunately, upon examination, 5 viable eggs were salvaged from her and will now be incubated and hatched. This will allow these 5 the chance to carry on their mother’s legacy & genetics and important role in our wetlands.

‼️If you come across an injured or deceased turtle, please safely secure the turtle (rubbermade totes & boxes are perfect) and bring it to us so we can triage injured turtles, and salvage eggs from deceased females to gives these eggs the chance they deserve. Make sure to also note the EXACT location the turtle was found as they need to be released in the area they were found.

🐢 🪺 Found a nesting turtle?
Reach out to the Essex County Field Naturalists’ Turtle Conservation Committee to report turtle nests & nesting turtles. Their team of trained biologists will be able to protect the nests. They can be reached at: [email protected]
