It's not just about snow. 🌨️

1️⃣ Winter tire rubber is formulated to stay soft and pliable below about 7°C, keeping grip even when the pavement is dry and cold
2️⃣ All-season rubber starts to harden around that same temperature, which quietly reduces traction long before any snow shows up
3️⃣ Winter tread patterns are cut differently too, with deeper grooves designed to bite into snow and ice rather than just shed water

That's why winter tires can matter on a dry, cold October morning just as much as during a snowstorm.

Maybe finish bleeding the brakes before doomscrolling 😂

Cold weather is brutal on a battery that's already on its way out. 🔋❄️

1️⃣ Slow or labored crank: if the engine takes a beat longer to turn over, the battery's losing its punch
2️⃣ Dimming dashboard lights: lights that flicker or dim when you start the car are a sign the battery's struggling to keep up
3️⃣ Corrosion on the terminals: a chalky white or blue buildup around the terminals restricts the connection and drains performance

Batteries that limp through fall usually don't make it through the first real cold snap. Worth checking now, before you need it to.

“Not everything is a two person job.”

Oh yeah?

Bet. 😂

That tire pressure light isn't always bad news. 🌡️

1️⃣ Air contracts as temperatures drop, so tires typically lose about 1–2 PSI for every 10°C the outside temperature falls

2️⃣ A sudden cold morning is often all it takes to trigger the TPMS light, even with no actual leak

3️⃣ The only way to know for sure is checking pressure with a gauge, don't just top up by feel or ignore the light

First cold snap of the season is a good reminder to check all four tires, not just the one that triggered the light.

A two hour job… until the vehicle has other plans. 😅

Sometimes a repair looks straightforward until we get into it. Rusted bolts, seized parts, hidden damage, unexpected complications, or waiting on the right replacement part can quickly change the timeline.

We would rather take the extra time to do the repair properly than rush a vehicle out the door just to meet an estimate.

If your vehicle needs some attention, book an appointment with Tom and Gerry’s Automotive and we’ll get to the bottom of it. 🔧

Fall rain sneaks up fast around here. 🌧️

1️⃣ Streaking or skipping: if your wipers leave streaks or skip across sections of the glass, the rubber's worn past its job

2️⃣ Squeaking or chattering: a healthy blade glides quietly; noise usually means the edge has hardened or cracked

3️⃣ Cracked or fraying rubber, a quick look at the blade edge tells you everything; visible cracks mean it's time

Wiper blades are one of the easiest things to put off, until you actually need them in a downpour or snow.
