Buying a used car? Ask the dealership if they can leave it exactly as it is and remove the detailing fee from the price.

I recently did this at BMW and was offered a $500 discount because I preferred to detail the vehicle myself.

It’s not about saying dealerships do bad work. But rushed or aggressive polishing can sometimes leave holograms, buffer trails and other marks in the paint. Then more polishing is needed to correct it, which means removing even more clear coat.

Take the discount, inspect the real condition of the car and choose your own detailer based on their work and reviews.

Most people don’t know they can ask.
