How long does it take?

How long will you be without the car? Fair question.

A straightforward CarPlay interface install often takes a few hours. For a replacement receiver with the fitting kit, wiring and camera connection, we typically allow a day.

Cars with more integrated systems or custom work can take longer. We'll give you an estimated completion time with your quote, so you can plan the drop-off and pick-up.

Can I add CarPlay and keep my factory screen?

Already like your factory screen? You may not need to replace it.

On supported vehicles, an interface can add CarPlay to the screen that's already there. Android Auto and wireless support depend on the interface and your factory system.

We'll check how it works with your controls and explain any limitations. If a replacement receiver is a better fit, we'll talk you through that too.

Will it look aftermarket?

The screen should fit the dash as well as it fits your wish list.

We use vehicle-specific fitting kits where available, with attention to the trim and controls around the receiver.

In the Gallardo we recently worked on, a Kenwood with Apple CarPlay went into the original radio opening. The factory switches and climate controls stayed in place.

Your car doesn't have to be a Lamborghini to deserve a tidy install. Send us a dash photo and we'll show you the options.

Can an older car get wireless CarPlay?

Love the car. Tired of plugging in your phone?

A compatible receiver can add wireless Apple CarPlay to many older cars. Once paired, your iPhone can connect without a cable each time you get in. There are wireless Android Auto options too.

One thing the wireless connection won't do: charge your phone. Keep a charging option handy for longer drives.

What about my backup camera?

A new radio doesn't have to mean goodbye to your backup camera.

On many vehicles, we can connect the factory camera to the new screen with the right adapter. We also check the details: guide lines, extra camera views and how the system behaves when you select reverse.

Will I lose my steering wheel controls?

Better screen. Same volume button. That's the idea.

In many cars, the right interface lets your steering-wheel controls work with a new receiver. Volume, track changes, calls and voice commands depend on the car and the equipment we fit.

A twin-turbo V8 convertible that still feels brand new. A screen that didn't know what a phone was. 🔊

This 2016 BMW M6 came in with the original factory infotainment: great screen, dated software. So we brought it up to date without changing a thing you can see.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, added to the factory radio with an RDV interface. Same factory screen, same factory controls, all the original BMW menus still there. Get in, your phone connects, and maps, music and messages come up on the dash. No cables, no tablet stuck to the dash.

And while it was here: a remote starter. One press on the key and it's running and warming up before you get to it.

Same M6. Same V8. Now it keeps up with your phone.

A blank screen doesn't always mean the radio is finished. It could be a connection or software issue. If it does need replacing, it could be a good time to add the features you've been missing, like CarPlay or Android Auto.
